By over whelming odds, violent incidents in this country attributed to firearm/s is committed by perpetrators either illegally using or owning that weapon. Despite well intended laws already in place designed to prevent gun violence, it happen anyway. Why? Because laws are only obeyed by law abiding people, not law breakers. Gun crimes are committed by bad people. The only thing that stops a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun. The unintended consequence of gun control laws is taking guns out of the hands of good people that could otherwise stop a bad person in the act of gun violence. This is particularly true in cases like what happen in the Charleston church shooting. The shooter reloaded several times without fear of being stopped because there were no guns allowed in that church. Gun free zones are a criminals haven for committing gun crime. Another example of this is the theater shooting in Aurora Colorado... another gun free zone. Please discuss.

I actually agree. Gun control laws only make laws that will be followed by law abiding people. They're only making it harder for people who obey the law to defend themselves, and their loved ones, from those who do not.

Does anyone really believe that a criminal who doesn't obey laws is suddenly going to stop carrying a gun, stop shooting people, and stop illegal owning a gun simply because the Government makes more laws to make it illegal? I mean seriously?

Those people already get guns illegal because they're not going to follow the law on how to own one legally but Government, or anyone else, thinks that if they just took guns away all together that criminals will just say..."Well okay. Since you say so. I'll give up my guns and not have them."

People who think like that live in a fantasy land that is absolutely dangerous to their own well being.

And that's the thing... if gun grabbers actually think they can take away all the guns, they are sorely misguided. They can no more do that than they can remove all the drugs or alcohol from the streets. They can no more do that than they can remove all the illegal aliens from this country. It simple is not possible.

All we can do is get a handgun license to protect ourselves really. I carry one when able. My brother is a detective here in Houston and has hooked me up with some good ones and the classes to go with it.

One problem though, heading back out to LA soon and I need to check up on their laws to see if I can bring it with me.

No amount of laws are going to stop bad people from being criminals :(

Here is a thought on gun laws that might make sense. Just as your drivers license is good in all 50 states, shouldn't we make our carry license good in all 50 states. I completely support gun education and the proper use of firearms. Would this not bolster that cause?

That would be too easy to implement :(

There's also those that worry about accidental shooting etc. I know those things happen, but always seemed so senseless. I was raised around guns, hunting mostly and was taught at a young age the respect and responsibility of gun ownership. Most everyone we knew hunted or had guns, we were taught how to handle guns properly. Unfortunately there is too much fear-mongering when it comes to the topic of guns.

I'm really not going to get too involved in this issue, because it is blatantly political, more so than the last thread, but I will just say any attempt at any measure to limit the availability of guns, through back round checks or banning assault weapons or high ammo magazines is always met with the same rhetoric, claiming that the government is trying to take our guns. There has never been any significant attempt to "gun grab" so when some one uses the term fear-mongering, I hope they realize that it goes on, on both sides.

We teach our teens how to drive a car safely and then reward their learning of these skills with a license to drive a car in public. But car accidents still happen and as long as humans operate cars, they always will happen. This is true for guns as well. We should train our teens firearm safety and proper use and we should reward their learning these lessons with a licenses to carry a fire arm in public at some point. But accidents will happen because we are only human. We don't see predominate fear mongering with vehicular accidents and accidents with firearms should be treated no differently.

Thank you for not getting too involved in this issue. I hope you are a man of your words.
