Yep another Zeke thread...shoot me....as we sit here patiently waiting for training camp to start I was thinking last night of all the heated debates I used to have with Barry supporters and why he was so much better than Emmitt. You all know the story Dallas's line was better, better supporting cast, yada yada yada...I never disagreed talent wise Barry was better but heart, drive, leadership, and not being a quitter made Emmitt the better back imo. Let alone were was all of his Dallas teammates when he was setting records in HS and College. Always going to be a great debate between those two no matter what side of the line you represent. Anyway in no way am I comparing these two young horses to two All Time HOF greats but there are some similarities between the two and I have read several quotes on here and post draft columns stating how Gurley is the better all a round back, more talented, will be the better back when its all said and done.. yada yada yada....Zeke clearly has the better line, better supporting cast, both teams are fairly young and look to be competitive for the foreseeable future...man wouldn't it be great, wouldn't it be awesome to have this debate again. I know its to early but there are some legitimate comparisons and I for one can't wait to see this unfold. Been a long time since I have been this excited for one single player on our team but Zeke is that guy. I was high on him prior to the draft and the 30 for 30 special only cemented what this kid may bring to the table. So shoot away.

I do not see either in the level of Sanders or Smith, but more as an Adriaton Peterson (prime) vs. D. Murray (prime) competition. We will both know if this is the next big showoff by late 2017

Okay, I can see the point. However, I still say Emmitt had the better line, better QB, better WR (by a long long long...wait for it, long way), better coaching and after 2 years in the league a much better defense. All that aside...it will be interesting to see how all of these plays out. I hope we get more help for Zeke and company in the next two drafts.

I don't get into who's the better players (so I probably shouldn't respond to this thread). I always thought the Emmitt vs. Barry debates were silly. All I ever cared about was Emmitt making our team better than it would have been without him. Now, I'm glad a Cowboys has the league rushing record, but it wouldn't mean much if we weren't also one of the top teams while he was here.

That's my hope for Elliott. If he can help push us over the top, I don't care who fans consider to be the best back. I just want him to be everything Dallas needs to return to being one of the top teams in the league. (I don't think he can be because our defense isn't close to what it was in the 90s, but I would be jumping for joy if his presence is somehow enough.)

Gurley and Sanders arent comparable IMO. Gurley reminds me more of AP. To me Sanders was more of a highly souped up version of Darren Sproles though not a great comparison. Also the Rams OL should not be in the same league with the Cowboys IMO.

yeah I hear and agree but like I said where were all those intangibles when Emmitt was breaking all those HS and Florida records...I have always and will believe Emmitt would have excelled regardless where he went in the NFL...glad he went here though

Agree 100% and he w/o a doubt made this team better but Barry couldn't get over the hump. Either way my hope for Zeke as well.

Agree I don't mean comparible as far the individual but more in line with how Barry was compared to Emmitt and how Gurley is being compared to Zeke..similarities are forming in that regard...Gurley def does not have the hops Barry had for sure for sure.

Not a big fan of linear comparisons myself. Both those guys were great players (and Barry played with some pretty good offensive pieces himself at times in his career). I do think Emmitt Smith's one of the most underrated great players in league history. Given his position in the record books, the Super Bowl teams he was involved with, and how the team struggled when he wasn't there, it's crazy to me that he's often not mentioned in the top-5 all time for his position, and (I think) generally not even considered to be the best RB of his era.

Amen sir! Amen. However I'll add...only with that cast of characters would he have been EMMITT...but that's just me. Man I miss those days.

So we're already comparing him to Emmitt when he hasn't even played a down?

This is the guy that should get the deification satire but instead its put on Hitchens and Green.
