While we are all assigning blame for this abomination of a loss, would someone like to justify the huge contract we gave Gurode? How the hell does a center who can't execute a shotgun snap on a consistent basis make the pro-bowl? Everytime we line up in shotgun, Tony Romo and the rest of the linemen are obviously uncomfortable, knowing that Andre is probably going to screw it up somehow. The second half of the season is really making me wish that we hadn't signed him (or Crayton for that matter) to big extensions. IMO the rest of the O-Line should hold him down and do the old towel/bar of soap thing on him like in the movie Full Metal Jacket.

Gurode snapped like a guy that hadn't done it for 5 weeks, which since he was injured may very well have been the case. This is partially coaching though, because this should have been drilled 1000 times in preparation for this game.

I don't give a crap where Romo etc went, or with whom, and if they relaxed, but I do feel that they could have been sharper and as a young team could have used some extra practice time. Little things (actually the snap count and snaps were pretty huge today and we were lucky we didn't have 5 more false start penalties), like this can bite you, and they did.

You can practice snapping under duress/pressure, but without danger of injury. You can also practice catching the ball without significant risk of injury, but I saw about a 1/2 dozen drops today that cost us big too.

It's not just this game, Gurode always snaps like that. Gurode doing shotgun snaps looks like Shaq trying to shoot a free throw. It's always astonishing when a guy who's one of the best at what he does can't do something so basic that junior high kids do it with more grace. Someone in another thread made a great point that the late and erratic snaps were discombobulating the entire offensive rhythm. And I don't know what kind of calls he was making at the line, but there were too many people running free right up the middle.

And, yeah, I think we got a look at the old Gurode today. The game is too big for him Gurode. The deer in the headlights Gurode. I'll never forget when Parcells was here and he called out Gurode all week in press conferences saying this is his time to step up and prove himself because he was putting him back in the starting lineup after he had been previously benched ... and the very first thing Gurode does is let Corey Simon blow right past him on the first very snap from scrimmage for a sack and fumble. That's the Gurode that always sticks in the back of my mind. And again, this is one of those tricky situations for Dallas because I don't really know what the alternative is, and I don't really know if we can do better, but Gurode is a pretty good case example of what this team is. He'll make a Pro Bowl. He'll dominate in October. But is he a Champion?

Are you talking about "High Snap" Gurode? He wasn't snapping very well even before his injury.

I'm not sure if you can really teach power and strength beyond certain technique in blocking.

I am positive that if you practice it enough, you can teach just about anyone to snap a football relatively crisply on a consistent basis, no matter what game, and weather conditions exist. It's practice practice practice, rinse and repeat.

Some guys just genetically can't push 500 pounds, no matter the training, nutrition etc. I just don't buy snapping a football is that hard, after the 500,000th time.

I hear your frustration though.

Gurode has GOT to be 10 times better at snapping in the shotgun next season, or we'd better look into getting another center and putting Gurode back at guard. Something that simple shouldn't end up being so costly to a team. Whether it was snapping it over Romo's head, snapping it way too late or just forcing Romo to jump and reach for the snap, messing up his timing, it was terrible all season.

And poor Marc Colombo will go down in history as having two "false starts" in this game, all because the referee just decided to name him when the entire line jumped because Gurode was so slow to snap the ball.

you nailed it. Nailed it so bad it hurts. Now just substitute Crayton, R.Williams, and about four other players in your comments on Gurode and you get another first round playoff loss:cool:

You cannot overstate how this hurts the quarterback play accurately passing and even making the right throwing decision.

no doubt about it, they were discombobulated all day long because of it. numerous false starts because of it too. just a disgraceful performance all the way around. Gurode, Crayton, special teams, just an all around joke of a ball game.

I listened to the Radio buddy.

Besides, it's been a problem all year. Go back and watch the rams, eagles, lions, Commanders games and then repost.

That is all:fact:

I think I remember someone asking Wade about this after the Commanders game and Wade dismissed it like it wasn't that big a deal.....typical of him.

Exactly, it's been a issue all year long. Buck did not tell us anything we did not alerady know.

A couple of the times Romo had to reach up and catch the snap. I kept thinking back to the snap that went over Romo's head in the Rams game. I thought Gurode would make that mistake again.

Cory Proctor did a pretty good job of snapping from the shotgun. It would be nice to see him develop into the answer at center if Gurode doesn't pan out.

Unfortunately Proctor is bad where Gurode is good and vice versa.

I said we'd have to look into it. Either that, or ditch the shotgun formation.

Gurode has played guard before, and his blocking isn't his problem. So if he can't fix his problem (shotgun snaps), then why not consider moving him to a position where he wouldn't have that problem?

I've been saying it since 2005.

I hear you. And what makes it even worse is that you could tell Gurode was thinking the same thing the entire game. It was obvious (to me at least) that he was trying soooo hard not to snap the ball over Romo's head. When he was snapping the ball, it was moving so slow back to Romo I was thinking "C'mon Andre, you can't be serious!"
