Guys, I am thrilled for today, I got to talk to Mr Bob Lily today on smoaky sports talk show in ktbb. I asked Mr Lily about his technique that he used hitting his eye. What it was, using the tip of his finger to hit his eyeball, and get used to not blinking. Later, Mr Lily-Mr Cowboy said the young Cowboy players probably need to use some of the techniques that the guys like Mr Lily could give them, etc.

Was just a great thrill to talk and listen to Bob Lily's comments and thoughts. Now, if we just can get the Cowboys to let MR Cowboy to come in and teach the Cowboys some new techniques.

I forgot to add, Mr Lily talked about what that technique did for him was slow the game down, so he didnt blink that first second when fixing to get hit and to be able to see everything. Mr Cowboy also said, he has read other books where some people have talked about the game slowing down using such techniques, adn you see everything. I am thinking our young defensive linemen like Ware, Tank Johnson, Ratliff and Spears can use the teaching techniques by Mr Lily and possibly others. Just an ideal.

I think Lilly was the most consistently dominant player the Cowboys ever had.

I've had the priviledge of meeting him and talking to him a few times. A super football player, a great photographer and an even better person.

Walt Garrison used to tell a story about Bob Lilly touching his eyeball during film sessions. He practiced it. He did not want to blink his eyes if someone got their fingers inside his face mask. YOu will never see a live shot of Bob Lilly with his eyes closed.

He was the definition of intense.

But did he use the treadmill during the bye week?

If I recall correctly, Bob Lilly never lifted weights. He was a pure speciment of an athlete...now, how he worked out, I'm not sure, but I think I remember reading about him never lifting weights!

The same thing I read about Hershel Walker...never lifted, but everyday he did 1000 pushups and 1000 situps, everyday.

Lilly just looked like he never lifted weights.

No real muscle definition. He was just naturally strong. A big ol' farm boy.

smoaky asked him the question about the cowboys now and the cowboys in the late 60's when they couldnt win the big one, etc;

Mr Lily said with the talent they have on the team now, they can win, just takes alittle more, he said the cowboys should have won against the giants,

maybe someone can put up the podcast on smoaky show on ktbb and you guys can listen;

what i liiked about mr lily he sadi that yesssssssssss, the cowboys could use some of the older players techniques,

to me, its kinda like the master teaching the younger guy, there is always things to learn and be taught, if the younger players are willing to learn,

awhile back, brady tinker had burnett on, and he said, talk to the older guys, listen, you can learn things;

so maybe someone could work out with mr lily and jerry jones to let him come in and teach a few techniques.

its kinda like this year, when emmitt smith was at OTAs, watching, and he commented to jerry jones that one of the young running backs wasnt squaring his shoulders on a particular play, and jerry jones said, thats what i was waiting for you to say, go show him;

or when daryl johnston the Moose was at practices and he showed young deion anderson our young fullback a few techniques, anderson said it helped him alot,

I agree...it makes your mucles more mobile by doing those kind of exercises.

Lifting is good for some people, strength wise, however, there are different ways to train your body for whatever it is that you are going to be doing.

I would bet that (including me) that alot of people could not go outside and leap-frog each other for more than a minute or two without their legs burning like hell!!

I was kidding... Just playing on joe's posting a bazillion times that our O line didn't have heart because Nate Newton said they didn't do their cardio during the bye week last year.

Seriously though, Lilly was the man. He was on Galloway's show a few months ago and was asked about the size differences of today's players vs. those in his day. He said that they had strict weight limits -- and the limits were very low -- and that they got fined out the wazoo if they ever got overweight. Plus, of course, Landry ran them to death, as was the custom of the day. Even still, he had to fight to keep his weight as low as it was -- contrast that to today. (Ahem, Marcus Spears.) If he'd had today's nutrition and weight training, he'd have been close to 300 lbs easily and still quick as a cat.

And I'm sure Wade would love to have Lilly talk to the guys. He's already said that the greats of this franchise are always welcome.

YES, lily didnt lift weights too much, till late in his career, they the experts for pro football said that if bob lily mr cowboys had actucally worked with weights early in his career, he would have been more awesome than he was,

can you guys just imagine, with mr cowboys quickness, and having more power,

i understand what your saying chocolate lab about my talking about the offensive line a zillion times, but did you see the other day where i posted about erik williams saying the same thing, erik williams played for the Commanders,

he covers the cowboys on channel 19 on wytx, anyway erik said that the cowboys werent in shape, you could tell, the way the offensive line played, and they were out of rhythm,

now when 2 pro football players say the same thing about the offensive line that has played pro football, won super bowls, then i would tend to listen to what they are saying,

also, i think to a degree, something that john madden said, the team takes on the idenity of the Head Coach, to me, it seemed Wade Phillips was laid back, talking more about his 13-3 win season then the playoffs,

i think that, possibly a few other things, added to the lackluster of the cowboys

there has to be a reason why the cowboys have been flat in late december and january;

anyway, cowboys are on NFL network right now,

That would be WAY COOL...! If the team really listens to what is said...?

Old time fooball mixed with this team's attitude of how you become great?

Bob Lilly on KTBB.com

I wish I could have seen him play live. He was a little before my time, but I love watching the videos of the older guys like Lilly who just manned up and beat the snot out of each other on a play to play basis.
