It has been a common talking point in the media. Unpolished rookie LT going against Myles Garret.

Guyton has been here since drafted either working with the team or with Manyweather. When Parsons come back, that is who he will be practicing against. While the DPoY runner-up does not present quite the size of Garrett, he does have much more quickness. If Parsons practices full speed then the game should slow down comparatively when Guyton faces Garrett.

I do not think the matchup will be a big deal. Garrett will win some but I think the rook will compete well enough.

Guyton seems like a long term developmental project and just not ready to start.

Hey Dak, remember that game in Atlanta?

Ready for a trade yet?

I don't think it will be Chaz Green-ish . I don't think the coaches will let it get that bad. I also think Guyton will get a ton of help with double blocks, chips by TE's or RB's. etc.

However, it's going to get bumpy. Garrett will get his or open the door for another. There is going to be at least one more position on the O-line with very little game experience. Garrett also has help. Their ILB, Owusu-Koramoah is an asset to the #1 ranked defense in total yardage as well as pass defense.

Same thing was said with Smith. He came in and worked with Manyweather on his hand and feet and and ended up playing well at two positions.

As for Chaz Green, if the Cowboys give repeated plays with no help and have Guyton short set and whiff over and again then sure. I do not see MM or Guyton doing that.

I think we’re going to see what we have with Guyton early in that game. I think he’ll struggle at times but I feel he’s going to surprise a lot of people. No he’s not going to be prime Tyron but he’s not going to be Edoga either. I think we will lose that game but not because of Guyton.

I think we lose that game because they are better on paper, as of now, and we don’t play good on grass. I’m also more worried about stopping their running game than I am about the Guyton Garrett matchup.

He only has to win a few times to possibly wreck the game. But I think we will do ok and win.

Yeah Mike would’ve never watched Chaz get beat like that to this day I don’t know what JG was thinking.

Guyton will be a flop.
Sorry, but this kid will never reach even 60% of Tyron's talent.
This was a major reach pick............
Garrett will run him off the field.

People acting like going from All Pro Tyron Smith to Guyton is a wash or some kind of upgrade are likely in for a rude awakening.
If Guyton hit his full potential then he would be at that level. Problem is that in college he was getting beat and handled by no-name DEs because he is so new at the position. The only thing you can do is hope that he can repeat what Tyler S. did but it is a longshot, maybe he will if he works at it and the coaches are 100% up to getting him there.

If you watch the Senior Bowl practice tape, if Guyton gets his hands on a rusher who is just running the arc, Guyton shuts them down. If the rusher has any interior counter move, Guyton is left looking for his jock on the field. That is his biggest flaw. Miles Garrett is all pro in his prime. Advantage Garrett.

Week 1, where Guyton will be going against #1's all day.

Mayweather may be a very good offensive line coach, but I doubt he's the Jesus Christ of OL coaches and can perfect players in one offseason.

Sure, he will go against Parsons and maybe D-Law on the 1v1 which should get him a crash course of speed and power.

How much of Tyler Smith playing well was coaching in Mayweather and Philbin/staff and how much was his improvement simply going from Tulsa to a NFL team that had way better coaching and training?
Oklahoma I assume has way better coaches and training than Tulsa could dream of.

Not saying Guyton will get destroyed week 1, but just cause Smith did better than expected I'm not going to put all my eggs in the Guyton will be ready for Garrett basket.

I heard the YouTube Cowboys creators talk about this the other day. I remember in 2021 Garrett attacked Steele and came away with two sacks. It won’t matter what side he is on, Garrett will cause problems. We are not opening at New York this season we are playing a legit playoff defense on the road.

Who knows what Guyton will develop into. From what I have heard he is incredibly raw so if you compare him to a Tyron Smith who was just starting his first year in a Cowboys uniform - no way is he going to be an upgrade over that. Not even close. Now could he develop? Maybe. Think the better question is - can the Cowboys develop him into something that rivals Tyron? So far no one knows what Guytons ceiling is and that is fair, but right now at this moment, he is in no way comparable to a Tyron Smith. The biggest knock against Smith in the last few years has been availability. When he was available he was every bit the dude who simply sealed off the left tackle position, but with age and those injuries you could never count on him to be available and that is also a problem. Getting back to Guyton, I guess people are excited to see what they have in him and will hype things up based on his size etc, sure they get excited to hear about the nasty streak and talk about being violent on the field. However, all of that is just simply talk. Guy has yet to play a single down of football in a Cowboys uniform and we won't know what we have in him until he does. Right now we just have a potential tackle who is a mammoth human being. I remember Robert Gallery was a mammoth human being as well and lots of folks were excited to see what he could do with his size - which in the end turned out to be not much.
