Haason Reddick, who is holding out, has informed the team he wants to be traded,

how often is a player traded...only to be traded again before ever playing a down for them

fwiw, I'd deal a pick for him, conditional third rounder just like what they gave up

but he wants a long term deal and we just aren't doing that

Just wild

It's crazy what's going on. I don't think the Jets cave, but who knows? If they do, how does that even work in regards to the compensation with the Eagles? If he gets 10+ sacks and a certain % of snaps, the 3rd round pick becomes a 2nd rounder. Do those conditions go to the new team along with Reddick? Not sure if he's even tradeable at this point because of that - but I don't know the rules on that. Really strange situation

The Jets aren’t caving:

The Jets had to know why the Eagles were trading him. He wants a big extension. The Jets acquired him anyway, with no intention of paying him, or keeping him on the team after this season.

The Jets saw him as a cheap pass rusher. His cap hit is 750k. But his base pay is 14M. Are the Eagles picking that up? Must be since he's a 21M dead cap for the Eagles.

If I'm the Jets, I don't trade him either. It's not costing them anything. He has to play and play good. Especially if he wants a big contract somewhere else.

I could be wrong, but I believe the Jets gave the Eagles a conditional 3rd round pick. Thing is, given Roseman's history of wheeling and dealing, I'm going to guess that the conditions would favor the Eagles (although I could be wrong).

When you trade for a guy who wants more money, end of the day you know what you're going to be stuck with.

Any time you do a conditional trade, you have to assume the higher pick. The lower pick is in case he doesn't live up to expectations. In this case it's pretty fair. If Reddick plays %67.5 of the snaps, and gets 10 sacks, it turns into a 2nd round pick. I think that leans Jets.

IMO Reddick will be playing 1 year deals for the rest of his career. Teams probably think he just wants to get paid and relax.

This is why you don’t trade for guys on expiring contracts until a new deal is worked out. Once you make the trade the player gains much more leverage.

Right. But in this case Reddick has no choice in the matter. He's screwed and the Jets know it. He's too old to be passing up on the 14M. If he wants his bag, he's going to have to prove it. He still might not get it.
