Somewhere on the great wide internets, there is a group of Viking Fans crying that NFL Network hates their team and only shows replays of the Hail Mary over and over...

Yeah, and they'll be crying that Pearson pushed off. Which, for the life of me, I can't see. Seen that clip a hundred times and still don't see how anyone can claim he pushed off. Sort of like Owens' offensive pass interference last week.

I'd almost forgotten about that money 4th and 17 conversion to Drew...

We should've had a game thread for this. Everyone would've been saying this was the worst team ever, Landry and the defense sucked, and we'd be lucky to beat a high school team. :p:

They promoted this twice last month and pulled the plug on it both times. Finally they aired it.

We have captured it, so It will be available at Cowboys Media. :D

Not only that, but also advances in graphics. I watched about half an hour and had no idea what the score was or what quarter it was.

Some things that I didn't remember from 1975 (or didn't notice, being 10-years old):

The degree to which Landry used RB by committee, and how much Doug Denison was a contributor to that.

Fitzgerald suddenly forgetting how to execute the shotgun snap, at the most critical moment of the game, and Kyle Davis stepping in for him.

Johnny Unitas did the color commentary, and called the Hail Mary "a better catch than it was a pass." That was true, but how about the strike Staubach threw a couple of plays earlier on 4th and 17, Johnny? (Under 2008 rules, no force out, and Dallas loses that game.)

The ref signaling infractions to the camera, then turning around and doing it again for the folks on the other side of the stadium.

Staubach's intensity.

Mark Washington, who was toasted by Swann two games later in the SB, did a great job on John Gilliam, who was on his way to a 4th consecutive Pro Bowl.

Carl Eller may have been better than I remember, and maybe deserves to be in the HOF after all. While Wright technically didn't give up a sack, Eller got away from him and stopped Roger at the LOS on a scramble. Still, even during the game, they refer to Eller as just "the solid veteran," as opposed to "the great" Alan Page.

Then-LB Randy White playing as a down lineman already in his rookie year.

Cliff Harris returning punts in 1975. And the gift TD by the Vikes that was set up by an obvious fair catch interference that was not called, and was totally ignored by the announcers.

What I did remember, as clear as yesterday, was that orange that somebody threw flying across the screen as Drew caught the game-winner.

Don't suppose there's a chance in hell of seeing the 1975 NFCC that was played the next week in LA.

Doug led the team in rushing that season. NFL Films had a great shot that season of Dennison and Preston Pearson standing next to each other before a game, each with one of their arms overlapping the other. I loved that RB by committee (Doug, Preston, Laidlaw and Newhouse), but everyone knew Dallas needed "the guy" and he came two years later.

I would love to see that. One of my favorite Cowboys games of all time.

I didn't get to see this replay, so thanks for bringing back some memories, percyhoward.

it's been on a few times.

as someone who was too young and never saw that whole game, it was pretty cool to watch.

what is with both teams on one sideline? odd.

and i love the little oddities from the broadcasters. instead of simply "facemask", they say...."tackled by the facemask." and they keep saying "let's go to the ground camera" for an angle that is from the end zone, and clearly not on the ground.

it's interesting.

Baseball stadium, so maybe there wasn't enough room. They had to do the same thing at old Milwaukee County Stadium.

Another thing about the announcers of that era, they did the game in a matter-of-fact style. By comparison, today's announcers pour on the melodrama an try to "sell" the game, which I don't think is necessary.

That's a good catch the benches being side-by-side at Metropolitan Stadium. I remember seeing a LB for the Vikes sprinting the length of the field on a defensive substitution near the opposite goal line, but it didn't click.

Yeah, isn't it great? :)

I don't know if it's still up, but for a while on youtube you could watch that year's (I think) Superbowl against the Steelers. Summerall and Brookshier were so great... They got a little excited, but didn't go over the top like most announcers today do. They also explained what was actually happening on the field much more than we see today.

Thats funny, I actually prefer todays style vs the old style of commentating. I love hearing the excitement in the broadcasters voice.

That was the first time I had watched the hail mary pass, and I felt that the commentator was rather calm for such a big play. I even thought to myself, was that the play that everyone was talking about on the forum?

But I guess it just depends on when you grew up watching the game.

Man the guys are so much bigger and faster now.
I know it won't be a popular statement, but there is no comparison to the speed and explosion of the game.
Also, the sophistication of the schemes.

Everyone noticed the announcers, but watch how calm the players are during big plays.
I actually thought Unitas was pretty good in color this game - but they were a little boring.

I will never forget that game. I was a young Marine stationed in El Toro, CA and had my boyhood buddy over for the game (he was in the Navy stationed at Pt Magu). You don't forget where you were and what you were doing. I can't get over how small the OL was by today's standards. They were about 100 lbs lighter than today's O Linemen. They'd hardly make a good TE, weight-wise, today. I will never forget going berserk after the "Hail Mary".
