Like all of you, I really am disappointed with the game last night. It was a dreadful display by our team and the officials, but let's take a moment to put things in perspective.

First, we were playing in New Orleans at the Superdome. The Saints are no slouches. They went to Seattle without Brees and beat the Seahawks. Hard to do that even with starters. The Superdome is notorious for being an incredibly difficult place to play.

Secondly, our team had some seriously bad luck. The fumble by Zeke was bad luck. The fumble by Witten was bad luck too.

Thirdly, we needed to be humbled. We got a bit big for our britches against Miami and nearly got embarrassed. So, how did we respond? Attempted to do what we wanted again, and that failed. We are still a very talented group and (edit) sometimes we need to be educated on why that can't be done every week. We have to learn to use the opponents weaknesses against them. In other words, use our heads, not our brawn.

Fourth, and this is why I say Hakuna Matata, Moore is a young chap. I didn't expect him to start perfectly. Sean McVay, for example, just got served a humble pie with the score of 55-40 to the Bucs in LA. Moore lost to the Saints in NOLA.

Fifth, following along with point 4, Moore just went up against Sean Payton who has been calling plays since before Moore was in college. Payton learned under Parcells. Moore has been learning under Garrett and Linehan. Naturally, Moore will make mistakes and occasionally have a game where his playcalling will be off colour. Sure, it sucks when that happens, but it's the NFL. What I want to see now is how he recovers. He called a bad game. I expect him to learn from it and call a much better game next week. In fact, I suspect he probably saw a few things the Saints do and will probably try to incorporate them into our offence.

All in all, the loss hurts, but it's a young team with a young OC. Could be worse. And we are, more importantly, still top of the division. Losses happen, and I don't expect us to go 19-0 every year. Moore showed his age and inexperience as a playcaller compared to the much experienced Payton. It happens. Hakuna Matata. No worries.

I’m with you. We will learn more about Kellen Moore Sunday against the Pack than we did against New Orleans.

How will he react and adjust after failing?

How much can he take (thanks Rocky) and keep moving forward?

It’s not the end of the world. Even Jimmy Johnson’s great teams in the early 90’s had off days. Games where they played much worse than they normally do. It happens to all teams. That’s why going undefeated is almost impossible.

1993, I watched a terrible Atlanta team beat the defending (and future) world champs likely they didn’t even have a game plan that day.

This season will be judged by what they do over the course of the entire season.

It’s going to be an interesting ride. People should try to enjoy it.

Great post.

Full disclosure, I thought the thread title was either a Hebrew phrase because its Rosh Hashanah or a Samoan Free Safety you wanted to sign.

Haha. No, simply a line from the Lion King (and Swahili) which means No Worries for the Rest of your days. And, right now, I think this is a Hakuna Matata moment. Stuff happens in the NFL. Just don't make a habit of it. Moore was simply out experienced that game.

Exactly. We all knew and probably expect him to lose a game here and there from inexperience. He was outclassed this game by a bloke who learned under Parcells and used to coach here so he understands this team quite well. How Moore responds against the Packers will give a clearer indication of the OC he is.

All the loss really did was make things worse for GB this Sunday.

I agree. And, as I said, I think Moore probably saw a few things that New Orleans did that might just work for us. For example, I expect the Packers to sell out to stop Zeke like we tried to do to Kamara (from what I saw). So, I'd expect Moore to try to widen the field a bit, and the Payton, by doing it to us, may have taught Moore how to use the offensive weapons to do what I think we will need to do to give Zeke more running room.

I realised that I'd inadvertently left a thought hanging. So to reiterate what I tacked on, what I want to see Moore learn how to do is to use the opponents weaknesses against them. Too often, we try to use our strength against the opponent. That works great against teams like NYG, Washington, and Miami. It doesn't work so well against teams like New Orleans where the team is smarter than that and the coach is smart and knows how to counter it. Moore is smart, and I think he learned that lesson this game. He has to use his head, not the brawn of this team like Linehan did.

Exactly. This probably won't be the last loss we have this season, and it's a pity when it happens. But that comes with the territory, and especially when we have a young chap. Sean Payton and the defencive coordinator they have are very experienced. They've seen a lot of different schemes and probably know how to thwart most of them. That's when Moore needs to be a bit more creative.

Yeah....
30 years ago a game like this would have been very upsetting.
Now, there's Always next week.
But, I still want them to win the game.

Well, naturally, I'd like for us to have won it. That'd be brilliant if we had won it. But, in a loss like this, it's important to put things in perspective.

Exactly ... who can forget Cleveland Gary and the Rams game .... uggghh

What happened there?

Rams 27, Cowboys 23

IRVING, Tex., Nov. 15 (AP) -- Jim Everett and Cleveland Gary made the National Football League's best defense look like one of the worst.

Everett's precision passing, Gary's determined, fumble-free runs and two late field goals by Tony Zendejas today carried the Los Angeles Rams to a 27-23 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Still, it was not until Troy Aikman threw two straight incompletions into the end zone from the Rams' 14 in the last six seconds that the victory was secure.

Los Angeles (4-6) snapped the Cowboys' 11-game home winning streak. Dallas (8-2), off to its best start since 1983, held its two-game lead in the National Conference East as Philadelphia and Washington also lost.
