Some of my “rules”:
• I use GBNReport for draft order. They currently have us with the 7th pick.
• I use CBSSports.com (NFLDraftScout.com) as a general guideline for prospect rankings.
• I will assume that all conditions of traded draft picks were met.
  • 5th round pick to Oakland (Brice Butler trade)
  • 6th round pick to San Francisco (Geoff Swaim trade)
  • 6th round pick from Oakland (Brice Butler trade)
  • 7th round pick to Seattle (Christine Michael trade)
• I realize the Cowboys will be receive compensatory picks but will not include those in mocks until they are announced.

1 (7) Jared Goff QB 6-4/210 Cal
635740341938679499-USP-NCAA-FOOTBALL-SACRAMENTO-STATE-AT-CALIFORNIA-67020134.JPG

• Where’s my impact player? With Bosa, Ramsey, and Nkemdiche off the board, it’s time for the Cowboys to bite the bullet and draft Romo’s eventual replacement (Memphis QB Paxton Lynch is also off the board). In 2014, Goff threw for 35 TD and only 7 INT’s; his ratio is much closer this year (24 to 12), but his QB rating is actually higher (2015 - 148.3, 2014 – 147.6). He’s on pace to throw for over 4000 yards. Goff gets to learn behind Romo and will inherit a talented offensive line in their prime when he is ready to take over. This is the pick some will complain about now and we all love in 3 years. It was very hard to pass on Notre Dame MLB Jaylon Smith here.

2 (38) Jeremy Cash SS 6-1/208 Duke
635731688277144929-XXX-DUKE-V-WAKE-FOREST-77510450-5622-74668234.JPG

• According to the CBS board, who has Cash ranked as the 57th overall player, this would be a reach. He also isn’t the free safety the team desperately needs. What Cash is though is an impact player and difference maker at strong safety. He has 16.5 tackles-for-loss this season, 3rd highest in the nation. He has racked up 177 tackles, 8 sacks, 9 forced fumbles, and 5 INT’s over the last 3 years at Duke, after transferring from Ohio State. Considered Boise State free safety Darian Thompson here.

3 (70) Braxton Miller WR 6-1/215 Ohio State
635772739838782558-USATSI-8788874.jpg

• With apologies to Dez Bryant, Miller offers a huge X-factor to this offense. Unlike past QB conversions, Braxton has been working on the move to WR for over a year. The 2x Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year (as a QB) has game-changing speed (4.3 40 time), and will contribute at the next level as slot WR, KR, and as a Wildcat QB.

4 (102) Jeremy Cutrer CB 6-2/173 Middle Tennessee State
635783991324220110-Cutrer-UNCC.JPG

• This kid is my Josh Norman-level sleeper this year. In watching Blue Bomber safety Kevin Byard, Cutrer kept jumping off the film. I spoke with the Middle Tennessee State defensive coordinator Steve Ellis and he says Cutrer is possibly the best DB he’s coached. He has been named Conference USA Player of the Week twice this year, once for defense and once for special teams. He was a 4-star recruit and LSU verbal before academics forced him to go the junior college route.

5 (traded to Oakland)

6 (176 from Oakland) Claude Pelon 6-4/300 USC
CAegpedUwAA6RLU.jpg

• This would be a dream come true for me since I coached Claude in 2013. Claude is a big, athletic defensive lineman who has played 3Tech, 1Tech, 5Tech, and NT. He has some of the quickest, most violent hands I’ve seen in football, and has a knack for blocking field goals/extra points. I see him playing the 1Tech in a 4-3 scheme in the NFL.

6 (traded to San Francisco)

7 (traded to Seattle)

-Now this is a draft I would like. I would absolutely love if we took Goff. I think he's a perfect candidate to groom as the heir apparent to Tony. I think he handles pressure in the pocket better than any QB in this draft, shows good footwork for the most part, and has all the tools to be a franchise QB.

Almost positive it would never happen though. Don't think we'll have a high enough pick anyways. I think Goff goes Top 10 (too many teams need QB), and we're going to finish with a pick somewhere in the 12-18 range.

Besides, Jerry's comments over the past couple oweeks indicate that drafting a QB is not on his agenda for at least the next couple years (which I disagree with).

-Jeremy Cash is a player whose stock I think will rise up a bit before the draft. He's a big, strong SS that plays best in the box. He makes plays in the backfield and can take on blockers. I still need to see a little bit more of him and coverage though. P

-Braxton Miller I think could be a real weapon as a slot WR down the line. He's another guy I think will move up draft boards as the draft approaches. Teams love speed and he's going to run well at the combine.

-Don't know much about Cutrer other than the fact that he committed to LSU, but didn't qualify academically. I'll make sure to watch some of this tape. He's got great size for a Corner. Sounds like a guy a lot of teams will keep an eye on as a potential steel in the middle rounds though.

Btw i have to say u have the best Mocks on this forum. u go all out with descriptions and pictures as well as u site your sources. I'm going to keep my eye on Jeremy Cutrer. Been keeping my eye on Kevin Byard as well from ur mock earlier in the season.

If Goff still rates that high come draft day (recall that about 75% of these guys drop way down once they are studied more closely) then it'll be hard to pass up the opportunity.
Then again, if he holds up under scrutiny he won't be there at 7.

On the other hand, you can land a TON of high picks with a trade down from there and Goff would ride the bench at least 2 years anyway.

I wouldn't blame them if they went in wither direction.

Yeah, I'd be tempted to move Goff for more picks but 1) I don't trust Jerry in trades. My opinion is we routinely get beat in compensation.... and 2) after watching Weeden and Cassel this year, I can't see the team passing on a QB of Goff's caliber.

Replace Goff with Ezekial Elliot and I like it.

If you really wanted Elliot then trade down. He is not worthy of the 7th pick. And the Cowboys could definitely could use the extra pick a team would have to give in order to trade up with them. If the Cowboys stay put at 7 they would be stupid not to take Goff.

If you say so. I don't like Goff at all.

I think its a strong tier 2 QB year. I think that could hurt Goff a bit and drop him out of the top 5. QB needy teams can pick a good QB at the top of the 2nd

I absolutely love Elliott. But I would not pass up the opportunity to get Goff if he is on the board. If we are picking that high up in the first them we will be picking in the top of the 2nd round also. And Henry MIGHT be there and Booker most likely will be there .

First three picks are perfect, IMHO. If Booker is there in the third, I'd take him over Miller, though.

Cash is my favorite player in the draft. He just makes plays, sideline to sideline, snap to whistle, every single play. He's the disruptive new era safety/linebacker hybrid that the Cowboys need. Another player that fits perfectly in today's pass-centric NFL is Deion Jones. I think he could be had somewhere on day three.

Great stuff, Chris!

Goff and Lynch will both be Top 5 picks when it's all said and done imo. Cowboys won't have a shot at either.
