per the Atlanta Journal:

Hall denies Falcons-Raiders trade
Cornerback refutes report he's being traded

By D. ORLANDO LEDBETTER

Published on: 03/15/08

Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall refuted a report on ESPN.com that he is on the verge of going to the Oakland Raiders in a trade.

ESPN.com posted a report Saturday afternoon that the Falcons have agreed to trade Hall for a second-round pick in the April draft, contingent on the Raiders signing Hall to a contract.

"Somebody's throwing something out there," Hall told the AJC on Saturday afternoon.

Subsequent phone messages left for Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff and Hall's agent Joel Segal have not been returned.

Yahoo is quoting ESPN and NFL.com is saying that it could happen in the next week. Maybe it's not a done deal yet.

Would Hall be privy to that kind of info?

The report stated that the trade was contingent on the Raiders and Hall agreeing on a new contract prior to the trade.

I hope the Raiders overpay for Hall like they have for their other notable FA re-signing and their WR pick-up earlier this month.

What I meant was, since Hall is refuting the report maybe the Falcons haven't told him he's going to be traded. Do teams usually inform a player that he's about to be traded?

The worst thing about that is it raises the price for other FA's for other teams, including their own.

If this turns out to be true and Hall is getting such a contract, imagine what Newman will want.

I just don't want us to be the team overpaying for Hall. That's why I'm hoping that Al Davis overpays for him, just like he did for J Walker.

well they would in this case since the trade is contingent on him agreeing to a new deal

I agree with you. I don't want Hall to be Cowboy making that. That would certainly seal the fate for Newman long term. There is no way we could afford two contracts like that.

I'm starting to get more and more comfortable drafting 1 CB very high next month (time flies . . . . ) and possibly one more CB on Day 2.

I'm not sure what to make of these Pacman rumors, but since the guy isn't even reinstated into the NFL yet, I don't see him changing our draft strategy.

Now, maybe we do get lucky if a guy like Springs gets cut, but I'm not counting on that either.

I think the Draft is the way to go.

Me too. If we draft a CB with pick #22, and he pans out, that would buy us a few years before their next contract.

As for PacMan, still on the fence. If it happens, it should cost only a mid round pick with a incentive contract but it won't be a low paid one. I just believe that if something is done, it would be before the draft, and I do believe that it would change our thinking going into the draft if it did happen.

The reason that I think that it would happen before is I just don't see us already having Newman, Henry, #22, and then PacMan. Just way too many people for such few positions.

I would be quite comfortable with picking a CB at #22, having Newman and Henry, and then picking up Springs or a June 1st cut as they are released.

There is no news of this on any of the local sports radio stations our here in the Bay Area. If the rumor was true about the Giants, they could have had the 31st pick instead.

The reason he didn't go to the Giants was because even though they offered a 1st rounder when they started talking money with Hall they weren't willing to pay him top 5 CB money.
