Hall Of Famer reveals reasons Dak & Cowboys struggle and lose on the road in 2023

Had Chuma Edoga blocked Chubbs and given Dak an extra 2 - 3 seconds, Dak could have found Ferguson getting open late in his route for a potential TD. Our Oline has been horrible all year and costing our team big time during these 5 losses.
That play was unbelievable he just turned towards the inside and let Chubb run right past him I can't understand it.
I mean what planet is he on does he realize he is on the end of the line and there's no one else to block that guy but him.
Don't see high School guys make mistakes like that

Lots of very good points made. Must watch...

PS: For those (ie... Brian Baldinger, etc) claiming Dak missed and did not throw it to a wide open Ferguson inside the Red Zone for a TD against the Dolphins, go to the 8:45 minute mark on the video above. Here is a still pic below. Clearly, Ferguson was covered early while Chuma Edoga intentionally allowed Edge rusher Chubbs to come through untouched to pressure Dak, hence Dak was forced to look to his right and force an incomplete pass. Ferguson only got open after the DB sitting in the middle moved off of Ferguson after noticing Dak look elsewhere for a throw...

Marshall Faulk was a huge Dak doubter....it appears Faulks' QB Kurt Warner work has changed Marshalls mindset

But people believe we have a top 5 oline. I just laugh when I hear that statement.
We have had a good line at best over the years, not a great one. Too many times in too many seasons have they been overrun or stifled from effectively blocking in the games that count in December and the post season. We have 2 aging and former juggernaut veterans in LT Smith and RG Martin and not the stoutest center in Biadasz. Then we have an inconsistent Steele at RT, and when he struggles the blocking is quite awful. Our best performing offensive lineman may be LG Tyler Smith.

When Tyron is playing, he's rated #1 in the league, Zach Martin #1 Guard, Tyler Top 5 Guard and Biadasz Top 5 Center.
Complain all you want, there's 4 pro bowlers, two all-pro's/ two hall of famers on this line.

We want more, we want to be #1 - all the time. We're good but we look great when healthy because the rest of the league is terrible upfront except for a few.

When Tyron is out and Steele sucks, we have a lot of problems.

Let’s see, BB is the Bible when he defends Dak post after post. Now he’s a POS because he says Dak missed seeing an open receiver. When Marshall F says Dak messed up he’ll join the POS club too I bet. Just keep the laughs coming.

That's the way things work here at the Zone. Any media personality who showers Dak with praise is considered the best in the business. Criticizing him, though, gets them labeled as a know nothing hack.

I knew as soon as I saw who the OP was that this was going to be another "ALL HAIL DAK" thread. I'm just looking forward to the last Dak poll after the season ends in a few weeks.

There's only one reason why we lose on the road. We are soft. Winning on the road is tough and with our team and it's inconsistent ways along with being soft, makes it very difficult for us to do. And where does this softness come from? Jerry Jones. We are a coddled team who is constantly told how good they are and we like our guys. There is no internal competition.

McG and O'Cyrus Torrence (whom we should have selected in the 2nd round last year) were destroying us inside in the Bills game, just blowing us off the line in the run game.
The majority don't want to admit that because A) they pooped on McG while here (often blaming him for other people's failures .... TB) & B) O'CT "doesn't have great feet nor fit what we like in a G" was the common refrain at draft time.

B is a valid opinion in some ways but I keep asking what difference does it make when he takes his guy out of the play? My first job for an Olineman is to be able to move a defender against his will. I'll live with him not being a ballerina.

If Cowboys would have scored quicker, they probably win. They needed to score with 6 minutes to go, not with 3 and change.

Zack & TB are not top 5 at their positions. Just watch this team play and its painfully obvious. Any ratings that tell you otherwise should be ignored for the jokes they are.

Is that why they let the Dolphins tackle Clark?

What are you talking about? He was open right at the snap and it was clear in the video you posted that he was going to be in between the defenders the entire play. Heck, even in the still photo you posted he was open and we all know anyone who posts a still photo cherry picks it and does so with an agenda in mind. Just stop already. I for one am not blaming Dak for that play or the game because I thought he played well but when you try crap like this to make a point it's nothing but a weak agenda driven thread. The truth is Dak could have thrown to him instead, but that's the case with most plays in the NFL. The QB doesn't get the benefit of replay and it's a lot harder in real time than it is from your PC the next day

You just contradicted yourself with your last sentence. Instead of eagerly wanting to argue with me, you just admitted it is a lot harder for Dak in real time on the field than one watching off of a computer screen.

Yeah, all 6 of the lastest rankings still have Dallas’ line ranked 3-6 range.

Maybe 26 other teams have REALLY bad lines
Rankings are relative

Exactly.
Torrence is huge and super strong, and just blows guys off the ball. That's what you need inside in the run game.
He does have some trouble with stunts in the pass game, but that can be worked on.
I was shocked we didn't grab him in the 2nd. I was shocked he was still there.
I just imagined he and Tyler Smith on that left side of the line for the next decade. We need to be able to run the ball better, and that would have gone a long way toward that goal.

That doesn't mean I dump Tyron. He's still playing at an elite level, he just misses time.
Great article on Cowboys Wire about how we keep repeating the same mistakes on the O line.
We are essentially in the same position we were last year, limping into the playoffs with injuries and no run game.
The thing with Tyron is that he is relatively cheap. Top LTs make 20+, and Tyron's cap number is just 8 mil this year, so there was room to either keep McG (who's cap number is just 4 this year (or to address the OL high in the draft), and we did neither. Throw in Steele coming back (too soon) from a major injury, and we are where we are today.
Seeing this obvious issue on the O line, and passing on addressing it for a back up, blocking TE?
If we had resigned McG we would have had that luxury to pass on the Oline.
That article I referenced uses the phrase "those who don't learn from the past are destined to repeat it".
Very accurate with this organization.

On this play, if you watch if from the beginning, the Dolphins LB begins to rush inside the DE. Egoda initially went out to get Chub who was rushing wide. But then Edoga slid inside to pick up the LB, who has the quickest path to the QB. This left Chubb a free rush to Dak. I suspect that Edoga thought Dak would get the ball out quicker. As it turns out the LB was feigning a blitz and Edoga fell for it, but it's possible if Egoda stays outside to pick up Chubb, the LBs continues his rush. This is explains why Edoga may have left Chubb. Was it a mistake? Yes, because Smith and Biadasz were there to pick up the blitzing LB.

The Cowboys the last two weeks have made a lot of mental mistakes on the OL the last two weeks. Is it being on the road? Or is it Edoga not understanding his assignments? I think if Edoga plays against this week against the Lions, he will make the same mistakes and the Lions will bait him into those mistakes. I don't know how a guy on the teams for the entire season can still miss these plays.

More concerning to me is no one getting open for Dak to see.

Martin isn’t playing well. Even with a healthy Tyron we don’t have a top 5 oline. But we don’t have to worry about the blindside when he’s in there
Tyron has been superb this year when healthy, incredible player who's "back 9 of his career" was blighted by injury sadly.

I was starting to feel warm and fuzzy that maybe we could get 2 or 3 more seasons from him after his recent run of fitness AND dominance. Dunno any more.

If he agrees to the same contract for 2-3 more years, it’s a no brainer. He’s basically being paid for time played. Tyron has always been very reasonable about money. A solid, not super backup would cost as much as he makes. If he plays 70% of snaps it’s well worth the cost. And doesn’t keep you from developing his replacement either. I don’t think his replacement is on the roster yet.

The only problem is your "70%" line. We are stuffed when the 30% plays!
