The majority don't want to admit that because A) they pooped on McG while here (often blaming him for other people's failures .... TB) & B) O'CT "doesn't have great feet nor fit what we like in a G" was the common refrain at draft time.
B is a valid opinion in some ways but I keep asking what difference does it make when he takes his guy out of the play? My first job for an Olineman is to be able to move a defender against his will. I'll live with him not being a ballerina.
Exactly.
Torrence is huge and super strong, and just blows guys off the ball. That's what you need inside in the run game.
He does have some trouble with stunts in the pass game, but that can be worked on.
I was shocked we didn't grab him in the 2nd. I was shocked he was still there.
I just imagined he and Tyler Smith on that left side of the line for the next decade. We need to be able to run the ball better, and that would have gone a long way toward that goal.
That doesn't mean I dump Tyron. He's still playing at an elite level, he just misses time.
Great article on Cowboys Wire about how we keep repeating the same mistakes on the O line.
We are essentially in the same position we were last year, limping into the playoffs with injuries and no run game.
The thing with Tyron is that he is relatively cheap. Top LTs make 20+, and Tyron's cap number is just 8 mil this year, so there was room to either keep McG (who's cap number is just 4 this year (or to address the OL high in the draft), and we did neither. Throw in Steele coming back (too soon) from a major injury, and we are where we are today.
Seeing this obvious issue on the O line, and passing on addressing it for a back up, blocking TE?
If we had resigned McG we would have had that luxury to pass on the Oline.
That article I referenced uses the phrase "those who don't learn from the past are destined to repeat it".
Very accurate with this organization.
