According to CBS, the Ravens informed the DT that he would have to take a pay cut or he will be released. Ngata is due 8 mil this year in salary and 16 mil against the cap.

I don't think he's the best fit for this defense. I think at the 1 tech we're going to see a committee of Hayden, McClain and Brent. Hopefully we bring someone else in for Hayden, but it likely won't be for what Haloti Ngata will want.

The guy basically fell off the table a couple of years back. He hasn't played at a level worth $8M a year in at least the last two years. At 31, he isn't likely to return to that level either.

Plus he got busted for PEDs and had to miss 4 games this season. As his level of play drops off he may be even more inclined to use PEDs. A second offense and he is out for a season.

Didn't Melton play some NT with Crawford at 3T? I'm not sure we will renegotiate Melton but he might be in that rotation too. Of course we need someone at 3T even if Crawford breaks out with double digit sacks.

I don't think Melton is coming back, but that's just me.

Ngata is a pure NT, not really a Marinelli type DT.

If it's the Ngata of 2012, he can do pretty much anything he wants on the interior. He could play 3Tech or Strongside DE or NT or 34 DE. However, he's 31 now and coming off injury and you don't know how much the PEDs deal, or possible lack of usage might effect him. I have a feeling that if he wants to use PEDs again, he will be able to but again, it all depends on who he is now.
