Not sure how many people oberserved this, i heard alot of talk about Spencer's wiff on Vince Young but haven't really seen any abody talkin about a tackel missed by Ken Hamlin with 2:41 to go in the second quarter. I understand that it was only one play, it is the pre season and he was not the only one who missed the shifty runningback Ringer, including Ware and Brady. What scares me is the way that he attempted to tackle with his arm and not lay the wood on the guy. While i don't want him getting hurt i would have liked to see some improvement or atleast more of an effort to take the guy down. Maybe its just me or im just worrying too much, it just brought back bad memories....Let me know what you guys think, if ya even saw it....

I noticed a play where he tried to lay the wood on Bo Scaites, combining with Bradie to make the stop short of the first down. I also noticed another third down stop where he laid an undercut wood on a catch short of the first down towards the right sideline. I loathe the missed tackle but I guess we can all selectively take things from the game.

Bradie, Ware and Hamlin all missed a tackle on the same play. Cut 'em.

Kidding aside, the guy made a lot of people miss and ran though a number of arm tackles, yet the other RBs were handled relatively easily. He must run with some power, along with his speed and shiftiness.

Ken Hamlin is one of my least favorite players.

After a good year in 2007, he re-signed and basically coasted last year.

He might be the weakest defensive starter.

Did notice the weak tackle there. That one had a lot to do with technique as if you are gonna arm tackle you don't grab the buy just above the knee around his thigh. That is the strongest part of a RB's leg. Emmitt broke those every time. Gotta grab and enclose around the shin/ankles and then twist. That comes from lack of repetitions, and will hopefully clean up by time regular season rolls around. The shoulder dives are dangerous too, because if ball carrier bounces off they aren't even slowed often. Gotta wrap up!

I agree Chief that he is one of our weaker defenders. I didn't mean to point out just the bad play, i should have mentioned that i thought he played decent other then this play, and did make some big hits. And yes, i did mention that both Ware and Bradie both missed on the same play. the reason i started the thread because in the Ravens game he also played decent except but a poor tackle attempt which cost us alot. I just dont want him tryin the same thing when its all on the line....Ware and Bradie had tough angle but Hamlin had a dead shot on him and completely passed it by.

I saw it.

Hamlin pulled a Pat Watkins and went for a block tackle with his forearm.

I've seen him do it before. He just dove at the guy with no attempt to wrap up on contact. It is pitiful and poor technique. If he does make contact, he just bounces off them or gets trucked.

He's not strong against the run.

Actually I think Hamlin just got juked and it was an ankle breaker lol. Ringer had a nice run.

I'm not so sure about that.

Go back and watch the Rams game last year. I'm pretty sure you will see him do it in that game when trying to take on big Steven Jackson.

Not defending him, just the way I remembered seeing it but I do know of all the people on the field at the time he should be the surest tackler and he blew it.

Yeah I agree 100%, he has looked like the weakest defensive starter so far in both preseason games.

I could live with the shoddy tackling if he'd make more plays on the ball, but he doesnt.

hamlin is a terrible tackler, and not much better on pass coverage.

I agree with every word Chief.

Hopefully this will be his last year as starter.

Ringer isn't all that fast. However, he runs like Emmitt....with purpose, power, shiftiness, elusiveness, and has great vision. He is a workhorse type back.

Tennessee has a nice stable of backs with CJ, White, and Ringer. IMO, Henry is the odd man out.

Also, I think on that play Ware misses him too. You know Ware is missing a few tackles and can’t put any pressure on the QB. Maybe he is saving it for the real thing.

Hammy also took a bad angle on the TD run, as did Brookings.
