Was looking up stuff on some of our players and I had never bothered to check Hamlins stats, I saw him play very well for us, but looking at his numbers, they were actually pretty average for his career. He had a lot fewer tackles than he usually has in a season (which may be a result of our scheme) with "only" 62 tackles compared to a minimum of 80 in his other full seasons. He had a career high 5 ints, but got 4 in 2004.

He's obviously a solid player, but are we over valuing him because we've been starving at safety? Does he look so good, on some level, because he plays next to Roy?

Something to consider while we prepare to pay him I guess. I'm assuming he's going to ask for top teir safety money, but is he among the elite safeties in the league?

When your team is 13-3 and the players tend to get overpraised. 13 players in the pro bowl is ridiculous.

Yeah, you're right, I'm sure the need to keep continuity in the secondary helps, but is it good or bad to have 13 players and have to overpay for it? Seems more a curse than a blessing if that's the case.

Lets see: HOW LONG were we LOOKING for someone to play WELL in the secondary?
Does that answer your question?

Yea when your up your up and when your down your down. We already have MB3 wanting LT money..... It's suspected that Hamlin wants to get paid like the other free agent safeties were..... when our real players like Newman and Dware who deserve the money.... and i think Witten contract needs to be extended also.....

I don't think Hamlin was that great last season, and it has very little to do with numbers. If he wore #31, he'd receive alot more criticism for his play last year. I'm not saying he played poorly, more that it was adequate. Somehow, his shortcomings went largely unnoticed.

thats a pretty lame response or reason.

:hammer:

Every one on this board is so quick to want to get ride of some one because of a contract issue. When Hamlin signes a deal we wil lbe paying him less money, actually.

I gave a response that the thread warranted. LAME AND WITHOUT REASON.

I'm anxious to see what his coverage metrics were like. I think they'll be at or near the very top for all safeties.

What is the fuss with hamlin and Cowboys fans?

I didnt see anything that warrant a pro-bowl spot. He was a upgrade to Watkins and davis however. But pro-bowl spot? Talk about popularit contest. When ever you have Roy Williams making the pro-bowl and aging players like larry allen making the pro-bowl you know the credability of the PB is out the window LOL.

Cowboys that deserved the pro-bowl if it had credability:

Romo
Owens
Witten
Barber
Ware
Davis

On the edge:

Flo
Gurode
Newman

Flo ABSOLUTELY deserved the pro bowl last year. Dude had a monster year.

he did have a good year....he just likes to fold in the playoffs:banghead:

Hamlin's tackle numbers were down because he was playing CF for much of the year

I swear, does anyone watch the Cowboys?

you mean the cowboys play football and it's not just SC highlights.

Hamlin was brought in to QB the secondary so that we would stop giving up the big plays. We have. We are no longer blowing coverages like we did. Its those like Roy and Reeves that were giving up plays because they stink.
