Why do we fans do these mental gymnastics to ourselves? Lol ... I truly think we have a form of PTSD and a level of distrust due to the last 30 years, especially after last year's all in BS. Guess I answered my own question but what I'm saying is, can we just be happy for a couple days? Universally, we are getting huge kudos from the scouting and NFL community, pundits. Take the win and take a deep breath. We seem to be headed the right direction.

Emmitt did mention that the way the Cowboys were built( pre-draft) that even Jeanty wouldn't do very well. He mentioned that the Cowboys needed a better O-line first.

I agree with your comment about the “reach” crowd. People look at internet boards to quantify what a reach is but the team’s board is the only board that matters. The draft is an inexact science and “reach” only exists in the minds of those not making the pick.

However the Parsons and Brady examples are not really relevant to the argument. If teams could draft based on hindsight, incorrect evaluations would rarely happen.

Spending the 12th pick on a Rb though is also a poor use of resources.

Golden, who everyone wanted, went in the mid-20s, would have been a reach as well.

Walker or trade back was preferred but reports are the offers to move down were weak. So with all that in mind, I can live with Booker at 12. Don’t love it but can understand it.

Hampton didn't go until pick 22. The question should be, would you have traded down to around pick 20 to draft Hampton over Booker at 12.

I prefer a traded down but again the reporting is the trade down offers were weak. Miami also tried to trade out of their spot after us and found weak offers.

So with that in mind, I can live with Booker at 12. Now if it comes out we turned down a good offer to move down, that might change things.

The whole first level of the defense changes. Finally a decent front guy that won't be raped backwards on skates.

Never mind.

They had plenty of serviceable guards already is my answer anyway.

What real QB do the Cowboys have???????????? Our current QB is over hyped, overpaid so don't get too excited about Mingo increasing his level of play.

We saw how long a "seeker of punishment" lasts. A couple times.

Would be okay*if* we were competent enough to take advantage of it. But we ruined at least two of them with nothing to show for it.

Smith can be a great guard or a good LT. I’d leave him at guard myself. At center I think we will be fine. He played decent especially considering he’d never played center and should get better. The interior oline should be solid. Steele hopefully is back to form. A rookie LT who played RT in college was bound to struggle. But I thought he got better late and a full off season and camp he may be ok. I’m not that concerned about the oline. We do need a better WR2 but doesn’t appear like it’s gonna happen unless Jerry pulls a rabbit out of his pocket

I’m happy with the Booker pick but this is an excellent question I’ve already asked myself. It’s hard to answer without seeing how their careers play out. I do like the idea of shoring up our interior which helps both our run & pass game + the identity of the team. However, we sorely lack a 1B option to CeeDee Lamb. Many wanted this player in the form of another WR. Personally, I believe we still need that guy at RB. That has been synonymous with Cowboys’ success. This franchise needs a workhorse RB. Hampton might have been that guy. Only time will tell, but Hampton would’ve been an exciting pick also. Ultimately, I would keep Booker at this moment.

I still feel like after the players who were gone before we picked, it was just a matter of what flavor you wanted because there wasn't a huge gulf between any of them. I would have been OK with Hampton or Golden because of need, but I'm also OK with strengthening the interior of the line, depending on how it pays off, of course.
 
Always build the trenches first
Than anyone has a good chance of running behind them .

It also helps your passing game so the offensive line helps in two ways passing and running where that running back predominantly helps the running game.

Booker will be there with our new coaching staff blocking for our new franchise quarterback and franchise running back that will be coming in drafts to come.
 
I would say no.

I only want elite RB prospects taken that high. Hampton was not an elite prospect IMO.

Jeanty was the only RB worth a pick that high.

I would have been fine with a trade down and taking Hampton.
