Hang-over food

I've seen people having a hangover and I can't help but wonder why they would ever want to drink so much that they'd have that happen. I don't drink because I come from a family where alcoholism is very real and very debilitating. I've never had one and won't ever have one. I know people who brag about them and how drunk they were. I don't get it.

Drinking is okay by me - especially good red wine.

However, I really dislike being drunk. If I don't get drunk, I don't get hangovers. I limit myself to two or three drinks at most and then drink something else.

I'll explain quickly two of the issues with alcohol: the peeing and the dizziness.

The excess urination is due to the inhibition of a horome called anti-diuretic hormone (ADH). Diuretics make you urinate. So ADH does the opposite. Since it is decreased when you are intoxicated, you urinate alot. This leads to dehydration and alteration in the salt levels of your blood (due to you peeing out an excess amount of your water).

The other effect is the dizziness. The inner-ear centers are important for balance and when they are off you can experience dizziness. There are two types of fluid in your ear and they absorb alcohol with different rates. The change in the relative densities of the two fluids while you get intoxicated makes you dizzy. Now, later the next day as the alcohol comes out of the two fluids it also does so at different rates and causes a change in density again which is why you are often dizzy the next morning.

As for post-drinking munchies, I've always like a couple of junior whoppers.

But usually I get some sort of breakfast burrito from the 24 hour place called Josies in Lubbock.

Josies is the best!!! Great all-nighter place in general.

I think Bob nailed it with peer pressure.

I personally have gotten down to the point that I actually live by the Army's little catch-phrase of 0-0-1-3. 0 drinks if you're underage, 0 drinking and driving, 1 drink per hour, 3 drinks max in one sitting.

I used to be able to pound 'em with the best in college, but even now (only a few years removed) anything more than a couple of drinks gives me a headache. I bought a 12 pack of Heineken when I got back from the desert a month ago and there's still 11 in the fridge...so that's an indication of how much I drink.

When you are never sober you don't get a hangover ;)

Meh for one never drink the girly fruity drinks with umbrellas and bright shiny colors like swabbie bobbie and you won't get a hangover..

Fast food for a hang-over? Most of the things listed would make me nauseous on a normal day, I couldn't imagine eating this stuff when hung over.

That is true, physiologically though. The less sugar that you intake along with alcohol, the better off you'll be.

It's weird cause I've never got the appeal either.

I've had a good time doing some drinking but I can't recall a single time when it was super, great, awesome fun when I got drunk or really drunk. Those nights just seemed like a blur and weren't really all that fun at all.

So, no, I never got the whole appeal to drinking till you got drunk either. Even when I did get drunk I always thought while getting drunk, while drunk, and then afterwards that it was pretty stupid and why do I feel the need to do this.

The really nice thing though, for me, is that no matter how drunk I've gotten (i've been what I call, I guess everyone does I don't know, black out drunk 3 times in my life) I've never had a single hangover. I'd wake up the next day and be just fine.

lol.

That's probably the reason a lot of people do it. For the ones who do it for that reason they need to grow a backbone and learn how to say no.

As for the topic, as I said above, I've never had a hangover so I wouldn't know what my favorite food for one would be.

I know burgers and fries is one of my absolute favorite things for when I'm drinking and/or drunk.

Taco Bell is pretty good during that sort of occassion as well.

But I haven't even been drunk in...oh...4 years now and that last time was the first time in probably 4 or 5 years so I've not gotten drunk on a regular basis in over 10 years now.

I got into that stage, and out of it, pretty quickly.

I was always told if you drink a couple glasses of water, and eat something like a sandwhich before you go to sleep at night after drinking that you wouldn't wake up with a hangover.

I don't know about the sandwhich thing but I know I have drank a couple of glasses of water before bed, on a few occassions, and didn't get a hangover.

Of course I didn't get one without drinking the water either so its possible the water does nothing at all.

Well, this weekend, I went to my friend's house with just the idea that we were going to hang out. But when I got there, he told me that a lot of friends that I haven't seen in awhile were coming over, so as normally happens when me and my friends get together. We drink. A lot.

Most times when I get drunk, it's with the preconception that that's how my night is going to end up.

It's mostly water. If you drink all night and drink a glass of water per drink, you'll feel great(er) in the morning. Headaches from hangovers are caused from restricted blood vessels in your dome, hence dehydration.
