You guys feeling better or what?

My take. The first week was such a gong show that the primary purpose of the game was a complete disaster. Evaluation of the third string and fourth string players. The penalties made it much more difficult to give a good assessment of the wannabe players.

With this second game I do believe some of the players have smartened up, and we got more disciplined play. Not as edgy and over eager.

I think this game gave us real good looks at what some players can do when the overall flow of offensive game plan is better executed. What the defence actually looks like in the second and third depth level with critical downs of second and long and third and long.

Penalties did not become a distraction and stressor in this game so evals could be a bigger focus during game day, and will be better on film sessions.

The biggest thing that stood out for me is the answer to the question, "Does Cooper Rush warrant a sixth season with the Cowboys, or is it time to churn his position?"

My take is Cooper could be more beneficial to another team. We are in the last three years of Dak's second contract. Strategically we need something other than Cooper.

Lots of negativity around here after PS week 1. Sure the offense sucked and Rush is terrible. The defense though...

Last night was a good old fashioned road domination. Against a good team. Sure most starters were no where but we complain about depth all the time so nice to see our 2/3/4s dominate their 2/3/4s. Wright sucks. We know but in reality he was never going to be a factor. I am net negative on these boards. All for extremely well founded and analyzed reasons. Yet last night was pretty good. Hill standout. Turpin, when was the last time this team had that type of guy? Cox solid. Safety play was super solid and our safety play has sucked for over a decade. OL looked better. Sure Tolbert doesn’t know the NFL rules on being inbounds but he is going to be fine. They cut down on the penalties. Offense was good. Defense continues to be good. Turpin is going to be fun. K? Worry about that later. All good.

I have felt great the entire offseason. The Cowboys are good and will be fun to watch. This is the best safety situation in decades. The defense is awesome. They drafted well and signed key free agents in Fowler, Turpin, and Barr. Eric Fisher might be next.

This is more like what I think the Boys can do. No, they're not going undefeated, but some really nice wins and of course as the Cowboys go, some stinkers every now and then.

Key is getting that OL solidified, then we should be good to go, might be bumpy early on.

Like we know and witnessed the first 17 game schedule last year, it's a looooong season.

Go Boys!

I feel better about 2 things. Penalties and Turpin. Penalties were cut down which is encouraging and Turpin may be a diamond in the rough. If he can scare teams to directionally kick or punt and he's a threat to score then he's a playmaker that can impact every game, ala Devin Hester. If our offense struggles, which it does at times and our defense struggles, which it does at times; having a scoring threat on ST can turn things around momentum wise. Also to get a playmaker for basically free is a huge bonus. These players make up for all the 2nd round rehabilitation projects that Jerry loves. So I'm excited today and I haven't been excited about this team for a while. It's was a bad playoff loss and a worse offseason. It feels good to be excited about a play on the field.

Need to see starters vs other team starters. It was nice to see the penalties cut in half from the previous game. If they could get to 5 or 6 a game that would be acceptable. Looking at the final score you would think it was a blowout but the game was really decided by two special teams plays. If you look strictly at the stats it was a pretty even game. One stat that stood out was LAC converted 7 of 15 third downs. Hopefully when all starters play that gets way better. Conversely the Cowboys were a meager 2 of 12.

Preseason. No major injuries so that’s good. I love watching the kids and new guys but don’t get worked up one way or the other about guys who won’t likely play. Of the things that mattered IMO

Backup QB I still feel may not be a Cowboys right now

Cox was great

Swing Tackle looks a disaster right now. Ball completely whiffed a bunch of times. In general still looking for backup OL that we can trust at every spot

DL looked good

still looking for a CB to play if Lewis isn’t ready or if someone gets hurt during the year

still looking for a WR who can be a #2 for the first month and the #3 after that

our return guy looks legit and explosive

kickers looked good, but need to see them stay that way

so, all in all, for the things that mattered it was a mixed bag for me. Not so sure if was a great night.

If we can hit on our second round, and not have too many gambles that would be an added bonus.
