Like I said, nonsense.

It's a 53 man team whether you realize that or not. I don't make or accept excuses for what string the players are or the competition is. You do. That's more than obvious to everyone and why you get little respect.

Everyone has a job to do. On offense that means scoring drives, ball control, moving the chains, and points on the board.

13 points, even in a win against a good if not great team, will lose more games than it will win. Bottom line.

If you choose to worry and fret over the ability of offensive players who wont see a snap all year, then go right on ahead. It's no skin off my back.

It's needless concern, however. The first team offense, you know, the one that will be out there when the games start to matter, scored a TD on one of two posessions and scored a FG with several of the starters in.

You say that like it's a certainty none of these guys will play much in 2006. Sorry, there are no guarantees in football. Romo could play a lot if Bledsoe were to go down and right now with Crayton injured if Glenn or TO were to get hurt then Hurd and Rector are the WRs on tap. I'd expect you to know this, forgive me if I've given you too much credit.

Hos,

I agree with your comments on the game. I tend to not pay attention to scores in preseason games (or how many points we accumulate). I know this isn't news to anyone, but given the evaluations taking place during the game, I believe that plays are called strictly to evaluate talent, and not to score the TD necessarily.

With that in mind, I will gladly take the 13 points in a preseason game with our 2nd string QB. It beats the heck out of the goose eggs we are known for laying in week 1 of preaseasons past (see 2003, 2004, etc.) with our starting skill players having much more playing time.
I put very little stock in the pre-season but we still need to move the ball and score. TDs over FGs if at all possible. It's early, but not unfair to say 13 points by the offense needs to be improved. I'll take the win, even in PS, but we need better. There's nothing wrong with saying that. IMO.

If 3rd string O-Linemen are getting signifigant minutes, it means one of two things:

1: We are riddled with injuries

2: Our season is already lost

Either way, we wont be going anywhere, so what's the point in worrying? If these guys end up playing, our season is lsot anyway.

But Hurd and Rector played very well, so that's not a good example on your behalf

4. Carpenter and Crayton both got dinged up. Neither appears to be season ending, but it just amplifies why I hate Pre-Season and why I wish they'd shorten it to 2 games. It won't happen, I know. I still can gripe about it.
I've said the exact same thing for years now. Football is football. Injuries are going to happen. It's a 100% certainty. If preseason were reduced by 2 or 3 games, it would improve the chances of more players making it to the regular season uninjured.

I think there is way more good than bad to be taken from this game.

1 - While scores in preseason games can be very misleading I also know that this site is happier when we win. So discount the victory all you want but realize that this site would be worried infinitely more worried if the score were reversed. Face it, you want players to do good things in these games. The more good things multiple players do the greater the chance that we win.

2 - I am thrilled with Romo's performance. You can say he just "managed" the game or "didn't have to do this or that" but you'd have to be in denial to not admit he is worth more opportunity and scrutiny. Before Saturday, that was all speculation. We now have hard evidence that he's worth looking more closely at.

3 - The defense provided evidence of the hopes we've all had building - that this unit has the potential to more than do its part to win a game.

4 - The OL was not a disaster. Lets face it folks, many have been concerned that was a real possibility. Now the run game stunk, and perhaps it took a mobile QB to cover shortcomings, but game 1 for this rebuilt unit is in the books with no definitively damning evidence. The work continues...

5 - We're actually showcasing depth for potential trades. Wow! And we last did this when? Don't tell me Parcells time here is a failure if he should happen to miss a SB berth. We are way ahead of 2002.

Concerns...

1 - PK. ** sigh ** That Vandy could be struggling with the $ we paid him... I'm not panicking. But I am concerned.

2 - There was apparently no one on the OL who earned any substantial superlatives. Collectively mediocre seems accurate at this point and there isn't anyone on that line that we can say the future is definitively bright with this kid. We're just cautiously hopeful with them all. Truly patchwork.

3 - High ankle sprains. Geez, can we get past those already?

4 - None of our RB's did anything behind that collectively mediocre line.

5 - Can't come up with anymore honestly. Ok, maybe the health of our WR's.

3. Though no sacks were registered I'm not going to say it was because the OL played great. Romo escaped danger on more than 1 occasion. They need to play better.
Our starting 5 - Flo coming off injury, Kosier first game as a Cowboy, Gurode actually started, Columbo first game as a Cowboy. All things considered I'll cut these guys a little slack.

It isn't called worrying kid. It's called expecting professional football players to step up and do their jobs. If this is over your head I'm sorry. Avoid reading me then because I don't intend to dumb anything down.

You're subtle attempts at insulting me are getting old, no need for it. You expect 3rd stringers to play well, I don't. They are 3rd stringers for a reason (though the defensive backups played very well, however defenses are always ahead of offenses at this point ion the preseason).

I don't need to insult you, you do a good job of that yourself. Like I said, avoid reading me then. It won't hurt my feelings.

Yeah, I expect professional football players to play well. Color me hard hearted.

5. I don't want a QB controversy starting here, and can see one coming if Parcells doesn't make it absolutely clear what his QB plans are. Every QB struggles. If Bledsoe has a bad game against a division team we do not need the media chiming in with their mad coaching and personnel skills. JMO.
Unfortunately Hos, that genie is already out of the bottle. The cork was loose even before the Seattle game and now that Romo has had a solid performance for an entire game it is inevitable that the media and many fans will be calling for him should Bledsoe falter at all. And faltering includes taking too many sacks since it is already a consensus opinion that Romo is better at avoiding the rush. I think we might as well resign ourselves to the forthcoming debates.

Yeah, I know. It doesn't make any sense, but it's the nature of the beast.

good points HOs, we're stacked at LB, our pass-rush is going to be formidable this year, and it's not like we have a Kimo Von Olfen at DE, both our 3-4 ends can get after the passer, and that rotation system on the line is going to be deadly

I would like to throw kudos to Kyle Kosier, I've been his biggest supporter, and it looks like he's going to be a nice asset for what we do on O

the bad

the run-blocking still needs work, esp. in the interior, same as last year, but a healthy Rivera, a mobile Kosier, and a mentally improved beast in Gurode will go a long ways

so far, the Oline is still our only real, weak spot, but I see a glimmer of hope in there
