Or any depth to even consider it in the first place. What makes you think that MM had the authority to bench players especially the players who were “our guys?”

Have the Cowboys had someone like that since Parcells left town?As a coach if you can’t pick the starters game day your useless .
I think the entire OL is TBD right now. With Conor Riley being called one of the best College OL coaches it’s hard to believe his strategy his reputation would be to play the Cowboy with tenure and salary over the better set of tackles . G is good with Tyler Smith Brock Hoffman and Bass as depth . Beebe reunited with his old K state coach should be even better 2nd yr C .
The question of having an offensive line that can dominate get the run game in high gear pass protect is the tackles. I don’t think either L or R tackle is settled I say throw Asim Richards Nathan Thomas last yrs 7th rounder in a four way competition with higher paid more heralded Guyton and Steele . Steele in particular is a concern .
Throw all four tackles in a four way competition off season camp preseason. Let the best two tackles start on Merit not salary not tenure .
One thing about MM bothered me he never benched anyone . OL in particular seems back burner in the draft / FA . Let’s see what’s in the building .
I don't think we can make any of those decisions right now. I think (well, I hope) this team brings in at least one new starter on the OL and that will determine where some of these guys with position flex will be slotted. I am all for a clean slate and if that means Beebe at C or moving to OG, I'm fine either way and the same goes for Tyler at LG or LT. We are putting our faith in our new OC and OL coach to improve this OL and assuming the old coaches did us no favors. So let's be open to whatever they think is best. I for one will be pissed if all this team does is run the same 22 guys out there in the same spots again, but I'm not a proponent of change for the sake of change eitherI don't see why people want to move Beebe. You put in your year of development on him and he passed with flying colors. You're now set up to have a multi year stud at the position. Why would you want to move him now?

If you think Steele is a bigger concern than Guyton, I'm not sure how to address your point. Guyton should be much better year 2, but he was horrendous last year. That doesn't mean Steele was great but he was an All Pro compared to Guyton.
Of course they should compete for Steele's job, they should all compete for every job. None of them other than Tyler Smith has earned a guaranteed job. But Richards was 10 times better than Guyton was last year and the depth chart at year end had him in front of Guyton. So going into camp and with no changes (and there better be changes) if you want to base it on play it's Richards at LT and Steele at RT. And why was Guyton "playing out of position", because he didn't play LT in College or because the internet geniuses think he would be a better RT based on nothing but failing miserably at LT? That's BS, he was drafted to be the LT. That was his intended position based on his athleticism.Guyton rookie yr NFL playing out of position. Let’s see yr 2 . Better techniques coaching . Steele is hardly a rookie and in pass protection the guy is a matador . He needs a cape to complete the picture .
Let Asim Richards or Thomas the late round pick last year seriously compete for Steele’s job .
It's dumb. It was a desperate reach by our FO to expect him to be highly successful in year one.How is a guy playing out of position if he never played the position in college, that’s Guyton . Then people come on here with uneven results rookie yr and throw him under the bus ? Steeie on the other hand is who he is a career backup who hopefully is replaced .

MM did bench Tyron Smith at midseason but it is irrelevant. Not sure if Tyron Smith will ever be a LT although training camp should prove if he can. Steele was coming off major injury so not surprised that he didn't live up to expectations last. He played far better the last 4 games and looked like the guy that deserved the contract, now we see in this coming year if he is back or not. With Conor Riley being called one of the best College OL coaches it’s hard to believe his strategy his reputation would be to play the Cowboy with tenure and salary over the better set of tackles . You can't expect anything from this FO in FA. So we will have to wait and see how the draft plays out. Although we all know GM Jethro likes skill positions more than the trenches.
Almost everyone looked better towards the end of the year as our schedule softened.MM did bench Tyron Smith at midseason but it is irrelevant. I doubt we draft any OL in the first three rounds but fairly sure they will on day 3 for at least a couple of guys and no doubt that they will sign 3 or 4 UDFAs on the O line. We probably draft a RB and WR early so unless the draft has a great DL fall then don't expect one until the 3rd round. Our trouble still is stopping the run and unless we sign a couple of really good ones in FA (highly doubtful) then it again will be our undoing. You can't expect to win and win especially in the playoffs unless you can stop the run especially with all the running QBs.
