Hard to believe it's been eleven years today...

By lame I meant boring......to me. Earnhardt was the only reason I watched.....he was fan. The man in black, the villian. He was a master behind the wheel.....he could paint a racetrack the way michaelangelo painted the sisteen chapel.

If you watched the shootout is was anything but boring, but I do know what you mean. Some of the tracks they run at are not conducive to close pack racing.

Also, I think the All-Star race happens too early in the year. What they should do is have the regular season. Then once we find out who all is in the chase, have the All-Star race.....then have the Chase for the Championship.

Don't mess with the All Star race at all. We go every year and we generally get a suite in the turn two area. We go because it always seems to fit my family and my friends family's schedule.

One last thing. I say modify the Chase a litte bit. If you earn top 10 in points you have shown consistency throughout the season and deserve a spot in the Chase, regardless if you have won a race or not. So, top 10 is in. Now if you are outside the top 10, but have won a race, then you qualify for the Chase. You should not only be rewarded for consistency, but also winning.

I have been an advocate of a pure points system. One where you get 43 points for first on down to 1 point for last. I don't think just because you won a race you should be in the chase. Last year Trevor Bayne would have been in the chase and he didn't even race his car for the longest time.

If they would just go on a pure points basis then those who would run consistently would get in. As for the chase itself, I don't think there should even be a top 10. It should just be decided on the total accumulated points throughout the whole season.

And by the way, if you have not gotten out to the NASCAR HOF they opened a couple years ago, you really should. If you ever get to Charlotte, it is a must see.

I agree the Shootout was anything, but boring. I hated the partner racing they had last year and glad that's over with. I don't like Kyle, but man can he save a race car!! He should have been out at least twice in the Shootout and wins the whole thing!!

There were some big crashes with 25 cars -- it's going to be crazy with 43 this weekend!! I know Waltrip and Gordon said people need to practice patience -- I think that's hard to do when you are in the Daytona 500. I'm excited for the race either way.

The first time I ever watched a NASCAR race from start to finish was the day Dale Earnhardt died. :( I'm a Jr. fan. How can you not be? Just wish he would win some more races. Hoping this is his year in the chase!

Jr. has/had way too much pressure on him to follow in his dad's footsteps. He isn't near the driver his dad was and I think a lot of people thought he should be. Unless JR. doesn't have top flight equipment he isn't going to do well. I don't have anything against him, I just think too much was expected from him.

That's how it was before and too many people complained that drivers that hadn't won races were contending for the title.

I have said the same thing for the longest time.

But they awarded bonus points for leading most laps, at the half way point etc. My system is a straight up point. It would reward consistency and success.

A friend called me about 2 hours after the race to tell me he had died. I didn't believe him.

same here. Me and a friend had watched the race and saw the crash and thought nothing of it. I went to go grab something to eat and when I got home my phone was ringing and my friend told me Dale was killed in the wreak I could not believe it. I loved watching him race and it has not been the same since.
