Hardy can sign while on exempt list

Being that he could potentially be suspended if i'm not mistaken I wonder what the market is like for him?

Hardy should sign a 1 year contract. Even if he does get a fairly large offer this year, it will likely be smaller than what he would get offer next year if he has a good season and gets some distance from the legal/suspension issues.

I can see that, but I can see the lure of big signing bonus like 20 Million being enough to take a long term deal and setting him up for life financially. Also that article says his attorneys have turned evidence over to the NFL, which (if true, some of these articles have been lazy reporting) would point to him being confident in his case before the NFL.

The team signing him can also structure the first year to have incentives built in on the number of games played as a way to protect against a long suspension.

I can see him signing a small deal and then getting a big deal after he does well and mess up again and screw that team up w cap lol

why would anyone sign him without knowing what the future holds?

this report coming out that he can sign while on the exempt list is dumb...nobody cares that he can sign...we need to know if hes going to be suspended or not

I can see plenty of teams being interested in signing him. I doubt he gets more then 2 games and I actually think he won't get any. He's already sat out an entire season. At most, I think he might get 4 games and if you can sign him long term, that's a relatively small price to pay for a pass rusher with his ability. JMO

Totally agree. Hardy had 15 sacks in 2013 and only three players had more than that last season. Elite passrushers are a very rare commodity.

yeah, of course hes a good player...but his playing status will ultimately decide his contract...at least it will reflect it significantly...nobody is signing this guy without his fate being decided...no chance....im sure his status will be determined before tues

I'm not sure what is the problem. He wouldn't get paid for any games missed. And there is just no way the league could suspend him for long if any because Judge Doty has already said you can't punish retroactively and the NFL has no evidence. Looks like to me it depends more on how comfortable teams are with him down the road.

I can see some teams wanting to sign him to maybe get a bit of a bargain, but I can also see him waiting(at least a few weeks while teams still have cap space) in hopes of being reinstated and having a better market for himself.

That's what I'm thinking. One year with a big payment up front (discounted somewhat for his uncertain status), and maybe a club option on future years at an AAV befitting his 15 sacks/year status that very likely won't be exercised. Then let him rehabilitate his image a bit in a big spotlight market like Dallas. I think there's probably a deal there to be done if nobody steps up to the table with a huge long-term offer off the bat.

I agree.

This might provide a window of opportunity.

Then again, once the NFL learns Hardy has signed with the Cowboys, they'll likely throw the book at him!

If Cowboys sign him, 10 game suspension.

If 29 other teams sign him, 4 game suspension.

If Patriots sign him, 1 quarter suspension.

If Giants sign him, 0 game suspension and they get to pick 2 Cowboy players who can't play against the Giants.

^^^^^^^^^^Got a big smile^^^^^^^^^

I'd bet that our people have been in touch with his people for quite a while, saying that Dallas would be a great place to rejuvenate his career and image.

Papa JJ has probably taken him under his wing already, and shown him all the endorsement money he can make.

Jerry loves high profile signings, and this guy would make that kind of impact.

I'm prepared to hear what a nice guy he really is, when you get to know him.

The coaches and team would need to buy into the move, in order for it to be constructive.

Sad, but true.

He shouldn't be suspended at all with the charges dropped. That ridiculous commissioner's exempt list needs to go as well.

But the NFL is digging in their heels on this and will fight anything that may set a precedent in favor of the players.

That's actually the bigger risk, that you sign him and then the commissioner continues whatever inscrutible punitive game he's got going on indefinitely.
