Harold Landry?

I have no idea where you got your incorrect numbers. But the fact is the Cowboys currently have 7 DE's. You forgot Datone Jones.

So they need to draft another DE at 19? That's not very smart drafting. That's not very smart use of draft resources.

Which numbers were incorrect? Those are their numbers from 2017. Also, Dallas was using Datone Jones as a DT last year. The problem with Dallas' personnel is they have a lot of guys that could be a DE but they really only have one that is any good at this point (DLaw). Also, they have a weakness at RDE. We have a lot of depth on the DLine at the 3 Tech and LDE positions but the 1 Tech and RDE positions are weak. Most of the guys you mentioned don't have the speed and agility to beat a LT. DLaw plays on the left side so he is going against the RT. The RDE position needs an upgrade but this draft is very weak for DE. I'm not saying they should take Landry but they should consider him if they think he may have the potential to be elite and solve our RDE problem. Obviously they had him come to Dallas for a reason.

Also, smart drafting is taking the best available player on your draft board in the first couple of rounds. Smart drafting is not reaching for a need in the 1st round. (Just an example so don't put anyhting into the rankings I listed) If you have someone like LVE ranked at #26 on your draft board and Harold Landry is ranked #13 on your draft board then you should run to the podium and grab Landry. That is smart drafting.

He started playing well at the end of last year. Chill out a little. Everyone thought D-Law was a bust, too

You're right. It is way too early to give up on Taco. However, I have no problem giving him some competition. Competition will only make him better.

And you can't count JAG's, underachievers, and druggies when doing a headcount at a position.

Datone Jones? Really?

Just shows they don't know what they are doing if they do. They were supposed to draft a RE last year and drafted Taco who is an obvious LE. Should have taken my boi Lawson

He is peaking my interest.

I am not saying he is or isn't a good player but why? Currently there is D-Law, Ealy, Jones, Taco, Crawford at times, Tapper and possibly Gregory (still on his rookie deal) on the roster. Why DE and not DT or LB? Just asking!

The problems is that we took a DE last year. So its unlikely we take another one this year in the eyes of Jerry Jones.

Harold Landry is a RDE, Taco Charlton appears to be focusing on LDE.

Is the team confident in DeMarcus Lawrence's back? Are they going to work on a long term extension?

This move would give them another option.

I don't expect Landry to last long enough to find out.

I'm with you and favor a DT or LB over a DE.
But what if the right players are gone at
those spots? Vea, Payne, Evans, Ro Smith, LVE? At that point I think you have to seriously consider a guy like Landry because of his pass rush ability, ability to beat LTs with speed, ability to bend, ect. We have some nice rushers - we don't have that speed rusher.

We have what, maybe four true DEs on our roster? Lawrence on a one year deal, Ealy on a one year deal, Tapper who is an unkown, and Taco. I have no idea where you got 7 from. Jones played 1T for the majority of snaps last year and 3T for almost all of the rest.

Drafting pass rushers is NEVER a bad idea. Eagles had a way better edge rusher rotation than ours currently last year and still spent #14 on a pass rusher. It was a GREAT use of resources.

Landry doesn't do it for me. Being from Boston, I watched a ton of BC, and he's never stood out to me. He's a pure speed rusher who doesn't have any go to or counter moves. He has poor hand usage and if he doesn't beat his man off the snap, then he's out of the play. He's poor against the run and loses motivation quickly if he's not getting by his man. He's got all the athleticism in the world, but his technique, lack of upper body strength, and motor fail him far too often. It's not something I've seen him improve upon either in college.

I could live with the pick but would prefer Payne or even Davenport

Lawrence is the only difference maker you put up there. The rest are JAGS or wont be around long. Taco? A project. I would never pass up a great pass rushing type in the draft because we have a project.

Good drafting teams are open to BPA. If DWare was in this draft and available to the Cowboys they should take him.

Harold Landry is NOT that guy.

The Cowboys passed on LeSean McCoy in the 2nd round of the 2009 draft because they had Felix and Barber.
Felix never had over 800 yards or more than 8 starts in a season.

Barber was toast after 2009.

LeSean McCoy
