What does everyone think of Harrison Smith? I have a feeling cowboys going to love him. Flying up draft boards. Many scouts say will be top safety off board now over Barron. Has great size. Very smart. And was team leader in college. My guess is he will be drafted late 1st

Mayock has had him as his 2nd rated safety since the start, combine just reaffirmed what he saw on tape, which is what you look for.

I don't think he's a first round pick though.

He had a good day and everyone is saying nothing but good things about him. He owuldn't be my first choice in the 2nd but if we take him I wouldn't hate it

I liked everything I saw out of him today. Wouldn't be disappointed to see his name called in the second would love it in the third but theres no way he goes that late.

I wouldn't be surprised if he became a Cowboy . Something about it feels right .

..........did ANY of you see him play? I did about 8 times the last 2 years and he didn't stand out quite frankly. Then again: NO one on that ND defense stood out: seriously it was a very mediocre unit. NOW McShay is on there rambling about the kid: I dunno: I say buyer beware boys....

I got on to start this same thread. I liked him a ton during drills but I was also seeing he was projected third round. I would love him in the third but I think we have more concerns for round 2.

I think he's a good solid prospect, but will likely get over-drafted because of this relatively weak safety class. I think he's a 3rd/4th round prospect. Someone has to be ranked #2 in the safety rankings; Smith appears to be that guy.

I have watched a few of his games . I think Dallas will draft a safety this year . I would take him in the third round .

He was better in 2010 than in 2011. But I learned about him by accident. I am a big Manti Te'o fan, but Smith was the bigger playmaker imo. The guy just has a nose for the ball, whether it is in the air or on the ground. He is much faster than he times b/c he has great anticipation.

The fact that Deion loves his technique and fluidity is a plus. He was always my favorite safety in this draft. He was all over my mocks early on but I thought playing for ND and not being a combine stud would push him to the middle rounds. But he tore it up everywhere in the postseason.

Here's a good clip of his defensive snaps against Stanford...

I just don't see a 2nd round type prospect, and I don't think we should force the issue just because we need one.

Its not a very talented safety class this draft. If Barron does not heal up then I doubt a true safety is taken in the first. Maybe not even to the late 2nd. Unless Iloka just blows up his pro day, there will be corner conversions taken before the true safeties like Smith.

I expect Smith to go around the 3rd. That said, he is not an elite athlete, so not a lot of wow plays. He is instinctive, smart and technically sound, so will not lose games for you. Only player in ND history to have 200+ tackles, 15+ TFL and 15+ pass defensed.
