Has anyone ever gone to the Hall of Fame induction ceremony?

Well, I figure since I now live just a little over an hour away, I should make a trip down this August to see Bob Hayes get enshrined and to check out the hall. Do you have to buy tickets for the event? Anyone else plan on making the trip?

Several times, you do need to purchase tickets but they often include the inductions and the game. You can upgrade to attend the dinner and get prime autograph time but it's a little costly. Try to get there early and hang out by the tents they set up for merchandise. The players, guests, etc.. all unload from the buses and cars behind that area. A tour of the HOF is not included int he price if you want to do that. Also, being only an hour away may not make it an issue for you but parking can be crazy. The run shuttles all over town so even if you have to park a ways away don't sweat it. Last thing is, if your going with some one who is handicapped or has troubles walking long distances just stop one of the crew that has a golf cart, they are always willing to lend a hand.

Finally, if it's predicted to be hot or cold dress accordingly. Once in the stadium there is NO WHERE to hide from the elements and they will only let you bring plastic bottled water. No coolers, umbrellas, strollers or glass containers allowed in the stadium among other things.

You will have a blast, I always do.

I have been once but it was 10 years ago and the ceremony was free. Once they moved it in to the stadium they started to charge for it.

You should go, no doubt about it.

Actually, if you are only a little over an hour away, I'd suggest that you visit the actual Hall of Fame during a non-induction ceremony weekend ... it'll be far less crowded, you can linger, and you'd enjoy it even more.

The ceremony itself is great fun. The speeches are wonderful and you'll have the chance to see in person a bunch of faces that you recognize ... (many of the all-time greatest players, current media figures, etc.). I wouldn't miss it if I were you. So get your induction ceremony tickets and make a day of it.

Also, if you happen to get seats that do not seem to be the best, you'll still be o.k. You can move around some, stand in the front for a bit. The have a reasonably casual approach of dealing with the fans.

I went the year Walter Payton was inducted. There were many alumni there. Sonny Jurgenson fell asleep on stage. Looked like he was sleeping one off.

I met Don Shula. He's not very tall. 5'9 at best. No big deal, just surprised me a bit. Also met Payton's son who was his presenter.

Randy Cross was there for some reason. Not a very social guy, but he had a hot wife...damn!

Not sure how it is now. I know the ceremony has changed. I do remember absolutely nothing is in Canton. No nightlife to speak of. However, it was a cool experience.

I've seen R. White, Dorsett, Aikman, and Irvin get inducted. Tickets for Aikman and Irvin in the stands were $25.

I think the tickets go on sale in early April. Check the HOF site.
