Has anyone upgraded the bluetooth in your car?

I've invested in a nice bluetooth MP3 player (this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072C4YPCG?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details). It's a great device. However, I've been unable to get it to connect to my 2014 Honda Civic's Bluetooth system. That's not a total disaster, since I'm able to play it via a cable in the auxiliary port, and the sound quality is fantastic. So at least it works.

However, it would be nice to be able to use the MP3 player without the cable. I googled the problem a bunch, and many sites said that a Bluetooth device may not talk to another Bluetooth device if they're not the same Bluetooth version. The Bluetooth in my car does work with my cell phone, just not with this new MP3 player.

Maybe I should upgrade the Bluetooth version in my car. Has anyone done this? Was it hard?

It's a 2014? Just use the cable.

Yeah, the cable's been working, and the sound quality is great. I did determine that the MP3 player's bluetooth works. It synced up with a bluetooth headset just fine.
