Since the first preseason I have noticed the knee jerk reaction about how horrible the Cowboys will be this coming season. Granted we have a few things to work on. How is the general census of the zone? Are you still as optimistic since watching the first preseason game?

Not at all. I have seen enough pre-season games over the years to know better.

Not mine. I never get too hyped hearing how great someone looks at practice and I never get too down (or up for that matter) by pre-season performances.

No, because my optimism is tempered and I didn't fall into the GREAT OFFSEASON love-fest. I know we have a ton of work to do. 4 rookies starting on D, along with a new QB will make the waters alittle rough.

We are far from a competitive team. If we don't rid ourselves of the injury bug and mistakes, we'll be 5-11 all over again.

NO. There were far too many individual play positives to take from that game.

From Burnett to Thompson to Crowder to McBriar.

But that oline needs to get fixed, and fast.

im still optimistic about the season. i still think the cowboys are improved at several positions. preseason is a time to look at who can and cant play. i think coaches are looking at individuals right now more than putting offensive drives together and scoring points. As the coaches make decisions on who is going to play and how rotations are going to be set i think we see a lot more consistency and team play will improve.

First WELCOME to the board.

I think too many people get too overhyped about things and set themselves up for a huge letdown during some of these early games.

I also think the whole instant gratification mentality plays a part in this situation.

We have no way of knowing if we will be good or bad based on one game, yet you will have people acting like the season is a lost cause on one game....at the same time as others have said if we would have came out and just killed the cardinals we would have people acting like we were the best thing going and thinking we could go out in the regular season and stink it up.

We just don't know things based on one Preseason game....we may find out a few things (like tucker building on Parcells skunk analogy) but we don't know things all the way.

People also seem to completely dismiss the idea that some teams/coaches in some preseason games are not worried about game planning going into a game or even adjustments during the game. They are just wanting to look at players and evaluate them in the settings they choose.

I just don't get how people can get so worked up over one preseason game, if they would not set up such goals then they would not be let down so much at this point.

That is just my 2 cents.

You know what makes me ill about that statement? It's been repeated over and over again for the past 8 years. Totally pathetic if you ask me ... JJ even went out on a limb on Hard Knocks to claim he has a world class OL.

***??? Talk about blind man leading the army. Holy smokes!!!

Considering that whole O line was horrid and now it seems we're down to concentrating on one postions...thats not pathetic...yes we're hanging on to some players due to either they cant be replaced right now or one more go from them....but considering how much the O line has improved i wouldnt call it pathetic...i think just people expect a quick fix and it will work to their potential.

I can still see us getting a 9 - 7 record and the knee jerk reaction is from most people who were bumping their gums about us going 13 - 3 etc. Preseason wins and loses dont mean jack, the important thing is not to get anyone hurt. Over the next three games we will improve as we start working harder towards the regular season, but I wouldnt be suprised to see additional personnel at RT.

Ugh, I saw seveal posts already discussing the 2006 Draft strategy ... so you might have a little bit of a point about knee jerk.

Don't worry. If we win Monday Night's game, we'll have the next dynasty on our hands.

Sometimes it makes you wonder doesn't it.

I meant since Deion left we have had troubles with CBs and FINALLY it seems we addressed the problem instead of taking the cheap way out (although some of those years we did have cap problems but that could not be used as an excuse last year).

We had troubles all last year with the Right side of the line....I could see two arguments about it this year.

We could argue that last year we drafted a OT and a OG but both were either hurt or just did not make the transition. So this offseason we get a pro-bowl OG to help a young OT on the right side.

Yet we still have injury problems with that OT we drafted last year, even though it seems he was making good headway into getting the position.
We draft a young OT in the later rounds but it will take time for him to adjust.
And we still had the same guy that lost the starting job last year on the team.

So one has to wonder if we could not have done a better job at getting a RT in the offseason or draft....maybe there were not any there that struck their fancy or felt were worth the money.

However it seems may have a situation where we are going from RCB problems to RT problems...time will tell.

No not even a little, mainly because I really haven't drank the cool-aid. This is a much improved roster, but the Cowboys IMO are still rebuilding from a decade of mismanagement.

Preseason football to me, isnt that far removed from baseball preseason during training camp for MLB. No one really recalls or let alone cares how the world series teams fared in March. Too many rookies and projects litter teams and play in those games. It's a tad premature to get worked up over the first preseason game. If by the fourth and final exhibition game the team's still false starting and making mental errors and gaffes, we might want to revisit this same discussion.

Nope, but my optimisim was not that high to begin with.

I don't read too much into preseason games, and mainly watch them to see how some of the young guys and rookies play.

I just don't think we are going to be seriousily threatening for anything until we have a good QB and the Defense has time to gel. Given Parcells age and lack of long term commitment, I highly doubt we will be going to a superbowl during his tenure.

Thanks for the welcome. I posed the question fromlistening to the sports radio from the host to the callers calling in saying they are doomed. Noticed from a few of the post about the same thing. I am concerned about Bledsoe, eventhough he didn't get much help from the O-line.

I'll echo the earlier posts in this thread re: the OL. Yes, growing pains are to be expected in trying to get some answers at LT, but Saturday's performance was, to say the least, depressing.

Eddie, I don't get it myself.

Seen plenty of olines that take a few years.

But NONE with arguably the greatest guard that ever played the game on it that just couldn't fit in the rest of the pieces.

The line 'underachieved' and Warhop took the fall...justifably, I thought.

But when you look around the league and gauge some of the devastating camp injuries that decimate a line, and we STILL look worse, I dunno.

Some lines play like a line..with the sum adding up to much more than the individual parts.

We're the opposite.

Good way to say it TE.

Although I am not over reacting or having ideas to jump out a window and say the season is over.

The performance was depressing in many areas.

As fans whether we realize that the game plan was for evaluation or not, we still want to win the game even if it is a silly preseason game.

So in that area and some of the play is concerned yes it was depressing...to the point of wanting to throw the remote at the tv....but knowing better and just throwing it down on the couch cushion lol.
