Former Pats linebacker, wife, arrested in domestic assault caseJuly 21, 2006

WESTON, Mass. (AP) -- Former New England Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson and his wife were both charged with assault and battery following a domestic dispute at their home, authorities said.
Police responding to a report of a domestic disturbance Sunday found Jacqueline Johnson in the driveway of the couple's home, said Melissa Sherman, a spokeswoman for the Middlesex district attorney's office.
Jacqueline Johnson said that she and her husband got into an

argument and he assaulted her, Sherman said. Ted Johnson, 33, was taken to the police station for booking. His wife was later arrested and charged with assault and battery.
Both pleaded not guilty and were released on personal recognizance at their arraignment Tuesday in Waltham District Court. They are due back in court Sept. 7.
The Johnsons called the dispute a "misunderstanding" in a statement released through a public relations firm.
"While we understand that private matters may sometimes be deemed newsworthy, we would appreciate the opportunity to address the matter privately," the statement said.
Johnson retired before last season, citing the effects of several concussions.
The 6-foot-4, 253-pound Johnson was drafted by the Patriots in 1995 out of Colorado and helped the team win three Super Bowls. He finished with 865 tackles and 11 1/2 sacks in 125 regular-season games, including 106 starts. He worked as a football analyst for a Boston television station last season, but resigned to pursue other opportunities.

The first word of the post is FORMER.

So at this point I would say no.
Well considering all the things that have happened in this off season with the Patriots. Wondering if this had been a former Cowboys player this would be all over the news.

I think folks overstate the anti-cowboy bias.

For example, Terry Glenn was cited for public drunkeness on 1/1/06 -- he was urinating in public.

This was not blown up at all -- it was taken for what it was, a guy who had a bit too much to drink on New Year' Eve.

Didn't make much of a splash at all.

To much is made of these instances. A coach isn't responsible for off the field behavior, it's up to players to police themselves (if they can). That being said, it is wild that this is happening to the new face of the NFL "elite" franchises.

coaches can't be with their players all the time, it's the offseason, it's up to the players to behave themselves, some hear their coache's voice in the back of their head, "don't do that, it's wrong", while some just tune it out, "it won't affect me", they say, well...

edit: just saw that it was Ted JOhnson, a former player, guess I should read the article 1st eh? lol
