Has Romo helped our Def improve?

They are playing scared because he's demoralizing them in practice; they don't want that embarrassment on TV. :muttley:

It's been reported that Romo has looked great since he's been cleared to play. That he has been on fire in practice.

Is it possible that our Defense has improved that last couple of weeks because Romo is the one running scout team offense against our Def??

I'm asking for thoughts from people who know more about the inner workings of a team than I do.

I don't know, but I'm curious about it.
Good point.

He wants to play again. He won't stay if he doesn't get that chance. And after this year, unless Dak sustains an injury that keeps him out for two years, Romo is gone (likely to Arizona). Book it.
What if Fitz hangs up the cleats?

No.

Our defense improved because it tackles better, it can switch up between different zone and man coverages and the offense has been a high scoring, run oriented offense which means the opponents become more 1 dimensional on offense.

We had none of that going for us in 2015.

We were one of the worst tackling teams in the league in 2015. Particularly from the safety position which is your last line of defense. We are also much better at the MIKE with Hitchens/Durant than we were with McClain last year. Hitchens/Durant are not very good at the MIKE, but that goes to show how awful McClain was at the MIKE. But, it appears that the coaching staff has stressed tackling and are playing more zone to allow the defense to be in a good position to fly to the ball and make the tackle.

I really believe that the core fundamentals of NFL football are blocking, tackling and being able to switch up coverages. If you can't switch up coverages effectively it will always...at the very least...hamstring your ability on defense. It's just too easy for QB's to figure out where to go with the ball. You can still out-execute the opposing offense with one type of coverage, but you're not going to get those valuable takeaways. That's why this defense has picked up in the past couple of games, particularly in turnover chances....getting Church back on the field we are now switching up the coverages more effectively and QB's don't always know where to go with the ball.

Lastly, the 2015 offense was dreadful. Now we can run and score and that means the opponents are more into a 1-dimensional pass mode, so we know what's coming.

If you can't see the massive improvement in our tackling, I don't know what to tell you.

And we played man and man-Cover 1 last year...that's it. This year we have played man, man-Cover1, Man-Cover 3, Cover 3 and some man Cover-2.

Enormous difference.

They have Michael Floyd and J.J. Nelson (one of the fastest men in the league). But what would prevent them from signing a free agent in the off-season?
Besides, that offense now goes through David Johnson. Romo with that offense would be deadly, assuming he could stay healthy - which I doubt. But, hey, we can always hope.

They cut Floyd (DUI).
Pats picked him up.

That's a provocative subject that most of us likely haven't given much thought to. With that being the case, I'd say it certainly doesn't hurt to have someone in practice keeping the defense on their toes. Romo is definitely capable of doing exactly that and I'm sure it doesn't hurt to have as many capable guys like himself as possible to keep the spark in practices going appreciably. I'm dead certain he presents a big challenge.

I'd be remiss not to add that DC Rod Marinelli deserves even more of a lion's share of the credit for the defense's improvement as well, however. He's worked wonders for that defense with somewhat limited talent, especially at defensive end.

this just reminds me of Darren Woodson telling Parcells that Romo helped them out a lot back in the day

He lives vicariously through himself.
His shirts never wrinkle.
He is left-handed and right-handed.
If he were to mail a letter without postage, it would still get there.
His blood smells like cologne.
Cuba imports cigars from him.
Mosquitos refuse to bite him purely out of respect.
He bowls overhand.
He is fluent in all languages, including three that he only speaks.
He tips an astonishing 100%.
Once while sailing around the world, he discovered a short cut.
His passport requires no photograph.

He is the most interesting man in the zone .. He is Antonio Ramiro Romo

The defense is playing OK but I feel it's being overstated. They havent really played many teams with a good offense. Stealers, packers who were struggling, Commanders. That's pretty much it. Theyre around 18th in the league overall in defense. Not creating many turnover's either.

i do miss Romo and his jedi spin moves and gunslinger ways. he could feel that blitz pressure quicker than anyone ive seen under center. that spin move he put on JJWatts and TD pass was my fav.
