Has there been this much negative reaction to any HC hire here?

I was not too thrilled with Gailey and was luke warm to Campo. I hated Switzer, but that was more because of the JJ/JJ falling out than anything else.

Campo was called a puppet day one on the forums (I am talking back in the day of the The Sporting News sports forums. Yes some of us where talkign cowboys on the internet way back then.

The joke back then was Jerry stuck his hand up Campo's arse like a puppet at press conferences

I was fine with the Gailey hire but Campo we saw that coming

Minus firing Landry you are probably right

Except firing Landry proved to be the best thing Jones ever did. No way we win 3 SBs out four with Landry as our head coach.

Was he controversial? The listserv I was on at the time (with folks that remain prominent on some of boards and blogs) was, as a whole, pretty positive toward Campo. Then again, we were just happy to have Cowboy fans to correspond with - so we were all very positive about everything (go Wane Garrity!!!!!)

To show you what a non entity McGarrity was, you even forgot the "mc" in front of Garrity.

all I know is, I've never been so down on a potential HC hire, didn't like the Campo hiring, but at least he wasn't an unmitigated disaster as an HC beforehand

idk, I just have higher aspirations for our HC, at least hire someone w/ a good resume, even a freakin' average one would do me fine, see Wade Phillips, plus he brings the added of bonus of being a 3-4 wizard

Just means it's going to be that much sweeter for those that jumped on the bandwagon first when he proves everyone wrong.

I have found too many people worry about bandwagons way too much.

Too many people worry about being on one side or the other and sticking through it no matter what.

Too many people worry about thumping their chest if they turn out right in the end.

I don't care about that crap myself...I have my opinions as we all do but IF it turns out ok than I am happy to be wrong.

Although there will be that other set of people that still would not be happy because their initial opinion was wrong and they just can't get over it.

Everyone was pretty owrked up about Chris Palmer last year, with similar reasonings, and eviousness of the Commanders and their hirings of their Al Saunderses.

"Jerry's lost touch! Snyder is a forward thinker! He's the only one in the league that understands there's no cap on coaching!"

Turns out Snyder's just a moron.

But yeah, this is a pretty negative reaction.

If by chance Norv is named HC I don't think it is a bad hire. To look solely at his record in my view is a bit short sighted after all a coach can only do so much with the talent or lack of talent he is dealing with. Jimmy Johnson looked great with great talent he did not look so great without it. I have seen what Norv can do when you put some talent on the field in Dallas.

Don't worry Cowboy fans...Norv is just keeping the seat warm for our future...:D

If we're successful with Turner-Garrett, Turner should remain head coach, and we'll lose Garrett to some other team.

If we aren't successful, why would we want to keep either one of them?

I had a very difficult time getting excited about Campo's hire, especially because I was perhaps one of the few who actually was bitter about Gailey's firing. The other thing about Campo, who I loved as a defensive coach, was that his main competition in terms of candidates was Joe Avezzano was it not?

Terry Donahue, George Seifert, Steve Spurrier, Brian Billick, Gary Kubiak and Chan Gailey were the roster of candidates in 1998.

I recall one other coach that was such a hot name among "assistants ready to ascend to the next level" for a few years in the mid-to-late 90s and who has now dropped off the face of the earth---Sherman Lewis. I'm almost positive Jerry interviewed him that year as well.

"Some talent?"

The guy had Hall-of-Famers all over the field in Dallas!

Would have really been something if he could have screwed that up!

Like Parcells says, "you are what your record says you are". And Turner's record is abysmal:

58 wins - 82 losses - 1 tie

That's not bad, that's terrible.

And the only reason he's getting this job is that he'll agree to be Jones' puppet and keep the seat warm for "Golden Boy Garrett"

And Jones will get the same 5-11 results he got the last time he went this route.......
