Check it out, 10 wins is not a guaranteed playoff ticket:

NYG sit at 6-5 with games:
Dallas
Eagles
@Skins
Panthers
@Vikings

We sit at 8-3 and have games:
@NYG
San Diego
@Saints
@Skins
Eagles

Eagles sit at 7-4 and have games:
@Atlanta
@Giants
49ers
Broncos
@Dallas

Sooo, we lose to NY, we fall to 8-4 while they go to 7-5. They will own a tiebreaker against us. They will then have Philly at home, which even if they lose that to go to 7-6 they have 3 very winnable games left @Skins, Panthers, and then a Vikings game which may not end up having any meaning to the Vikings if the Saints win out. That could put NY at 10-6. Meanwhile, we would be at 8-4 with TOUGH games against San Diego and at NO. If we dropped those two and beat the Skins we'd be at 9-6 with NY holding the tiebreaker over us even if we beat the Eagles. Also, Philly would likely be left to win the division with NY and Green Bay getting the two WCs over us by virtue of beating us.
Basically, if we lose to NY this week, to maintain control of our own destiny we will likely have to go 3-1 in our final four games to get the WC. Tough.

Rest assured that barring a major collapse, Green Bay (7-4), who owns the tiebreaker over us will be getting a WC as here is their remaining games:
Ravens
@Bears
@Steelers
Seahawks
Cardinals
Easy to see them winning 3 or 4 of those games and finishing with 10 or even 11 wins. Doubtful that the Cardinals will have anything to play for the final week.

Meanwhile in Philly (7-4), I imagine they'll lose at least one of their next four but its hard to say which one. Matt Ryan is out this week for Atlanta, the Eagles have owned the NYG recently, the 49ers aren't really very good, and they get the Broncos at Philly. Hard to see Philly finishing with less than 10 maybe 11 wins.

The good news is that if we beat NY this week we move to 9-3 and, even if Philly wins their next four, we'd still get to play the final game against them for the division crown (beating them would give us the crown by virtue of owning a 2-0 tiebreaker against them). Not to mention the wonderful fact that we'd eliminate NY from the postseason and virtually guarantee ourselves of at least a WC. Make no mistake my friends, this game is nearly a playoff game, NY knows it, we better also.

which part, the one where Jerry gives up GM'ing to Holmgren or where we steal Jeff Fisher from the Titans? This is Madden right?

Good points and i agree. This is a must win because it is probably the most winnable of the 5. Good thing is the Cowboys have shown to play pretty good in NY. Also, Felix is looking healthy again!

Well every team wins a must win against us. Why shouldn't we win a few.

We would need to win another game to win the division if Philly were to win their next 4. Nine wins after NY + a win at Philly = 10 wins. Philly would have 11.

Agree that every game is important, but I think the East could get 3 teams in. Atlanta is 6-5, going to miss Matt Ryan and still has to play NO twice, GB is 7-4 buthas a couple of tough games. Other than that there really aren't any other teams in contention.

10-6 gets us in over Atlanta and I think GB could lose 3...home against Baltimore, at Pitt, at Arizona...and in Chicago you never know. That would put them 9-7.

Very good analysis, I agree with just about everything you said.

In reality, if we lose to the G-men we probably dont win the division, a Wildcard would be more realistic considering we probably lose to the Saints as well and maybe San Diego. That would be 2-3 starring us in the face and 2 more wins is not enough to win the division.

Im not trying to predict doom and gloom here, it is just a numbers game and 10 wins is not going to win a division title, at a minimum it will take 11.

Atlanta already played n.o once. They played at new orleans and took it to the wire.

Without Matt Ryan the Falcons are done. No way they beat the Eagles with Chris Redman at QB and 1 more loss basically ends their season.

Dont worry about the Falcons in any playoff scenario. The 2 Wildcards will go to Green Bay and the runner-up in the NFCE.

This game is definitely huge. If we go into NY and beat the Giants, not only do we have a 9-3 record, a division win and a conference win, but we can certainly turn right around and beat the Skins and Eagles at home. That is all we need and the other two games against N.O. and San Diego would be nice to win, but not necessary.

I think if we beat the Giants, the rest of the season falls right into place in our favor. Lose to a team that has lost 5 out of it's last 6, and we will be limping around for a while and could miss the playoffs.

I have to say I think the phrase "must win" is overused. This game is a must win, but then so is the next and the next. And when you drop one, the next game that was already a must win becomes that much bigger of a must win...so yes, this is a must win, but aren't they all?

To me, I consider this game more of a statement game. It's a must win for the Giants, no doubt, but to me this is the sort of game a team primed for a nice playoff run wins. A team prepped to back its way into the playoffs -- and quickly out of it -- probably loses it.

Where I agree this game is a must win is when looking ahead on the schedule. This is the last game over the next several weeks in which we'll be the better team on the field. If we lose this, it's not out of question that we're suddenly staring a 3-game losing streak in the face.

The difference is this is a division game and those games are way more important than the conference games or non-conference games.

However, you are correct that if we cant beat a bad 6-5 Giants team then we probably cant beat a red hot Chargers team and we probably cant beat an undefeated Saints team. So yes, we drop this one to the Giants and we probably go 0-3 to start December and hear all the talking heads say "I told you so".

It's not a must win. But that won't stop people from freaking if we lose.

That doesn't make THIS week's game a must win. It's a week to week league. One game at a time, all that jazz. Trying to say well if we lose this week, then that certainly means we start 0-3 is not following that cardinal cliche.

And Wade better not be telling that team that if we lose this one we go 0-3. There doesn't need to be any added pressure this week. It's already gonna be difficult enough. If they go out there afraid to lose because they're thinking that one loss here means we're, 8-6 then we're doomed.

If anybody doesn't think this is a must win they're deluding themselves. Washington aside this may be the most winnable game the Cowboys have left on the schedule. This is one they can't leave on the table. It's kind of like that Pittsburgh game last year. Everyone said all would be well and we know how that turned out.
