I maybe WOULD have cheered for the Oilers when they were there but for morons like Carl Mauck who said he'd pack the bags of any Cowboys fan in Houston and move them back to Dallas.

I actually liked Bum..he's got good old common Texas sense.

I loved Earl...just a pleasure to watch that guy play.

I respected Pastorini..he took a ton of punishment and still played hard.

But I would never, ever cheer for the Oilers after that statement by Mauck. And he still feels the same today!

That being said they had some class guys like Matthews, Earl, Bum, etc. And I admired the "love you blue" support they got in those pep rallies. That was impressive.

Welcome to the board...enjoy.

I agree Carl Mauck comments and complete hatred for the Cowboys helped stir up the Houston fans aginst us Cowboy fans. I did have respect for Bum, Earl and some other players on their team but I enjoyed seeing them fall and taking their fans with them. One of the best games I ever saw in football was the Buffalo come back in the playoffs. Down 35-3 my dad gave up on the game and each time Buff would score I would tell here it comes they are coming back (joking of course) by the time Buff had cut it down to 2 scores I started telling my dad "no seriously buffalo is coming back" and when the game was done we sat there smiling ear to ear and laughing our butts off. The look on the fans faces the next day was a thing of beauty. :laugh2:

I don't live in Houston but close enough...my main thing with the fans there is they seem confused. To me it's just obvious football sense that your rivals are the teams in your divison...the teams that can make or break YOUR team's season...

The obvious for us would be the Eagles, Skins, etc.

So to me the Texans fans should get worked up over the Titans (it was weird and somewhat amusing to see all the fans cheering for Vince when he beat them in OT last season), Jags and NOT the Cowboys. We don't mean anything to them unless we meet in the Super Bowl and then it's on.

I have been to the Texans boards and they don't get nearly as worked up over their own division opponents as they do the Cowboys. Like I said they're confused.

Like one of the local DJ said this morning. It is because Dallas is just one of the most popular teams in the NFL and we share the state of Texas with the Texans\Oilers and have always over shadowed the local team. I would add Houston in general has always had a rival with the City of Dallas even beyond sports.

Truth! There is an article in the Lifestyle section of the Chronicle this morning about how much Houston is over Dallas...the museums and city attractions.

Houston AS A CITY has a thing about Dallas...I lived in Dallas for a long time and I can count on one hand how many times I heard a person there say the word "Houston"....

In Houston it's part of their genetic code to hate Dallas and anything Dallas.

It's really very silly.

I read that this AM and had to roll my eyes. This happens every time the teams play and is nonsense. I'm not a native Houstonian, I just happen to live in the area. Hell, I grew up an hour and a half east in the Golden Triangle area and it was and still is Cowboys country -- especially with Jimmy (Port Arthur) and Coach Phillips (Port Neches) being from there.

I went to high school in Katy, a place my parents still live and I have nothing but fond memories of Houston except for two things:

1.) Blackout of Cowboy games that occur during Texan games because they're afraid fans will watch Cowboys instead.

2.) Unmitigated Cowboy hatred after loving the Cowboys before the Texans existed.

The Houston Texans are not even worth my weekly Opposing Team "HATE THREAD"
