Haters vs Homers: A Discussion?

The problem is that never should have been the biggest moment of the game. This thing should have been salted away long before that but our offense did nothing today. Yes Dak has proven that he can play at a high, even great level, but he's in a funk right now, and anyone denying that is just refusing to accept reality.

Our defense has as many TDs as he does in the past 2 games. That is not going to happen consistently. All those turnovers and sacks...if they hadn't happened the past 2 games, we would be sitting in second place right now in the East. He's got to pull it together and get back to his early season MVP level form or this team is just dead in the water come playoffs. Zeke too...
No disagreement with any of that.

Disclaimer: THIS IS MY HONEST ATTEMPT TO OPEN REASONABLE DIALOGUE SO THAT I, AND OTHERS, CAN GAIN AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE “OTHER SIDE”.

The eternal dichotomy of sports fandom… the haters and the homers.

One, blindly optimistic; one, unshakably critical. I most definitely fall into the latter category.

In saying this, I’d like to open the floor to the optimists (I won’t name names)! I’m hoping we can have a constructive conversation and hear each other out on things such as:

Why do you dislike someone being critical of your favorite team and/or players of that team? Do you feel it’s disrespectful? Anti-fan?

While watching games, how do you react when things go wrong? If Dak makes a terrible throw or has an untimely interception or Anthony Brown gets burned, what’s your internal and external reaction? Do you have negative thoughts or do you directly move on to the next play and hope for the best?

I’d really like to hear from you guys, on both sides. There is usually a strict divide on this and there’s lots of judgment tossed around (especially during games when tensions are high). But maybe we can gain some perspective and have rational discussion while emotions are stable.

Go Cowboys!
Can the realists get some love?

What I wish we had lots more of around here is tolerance of opinions that differ from our own.

We don’t all have to agree with someone’s opinion but I believe we all should accept that there are multiple opinions about the Cowboys and this is a great place to express them. This after all is an opinion forum for Cowboys fans. If everyone believed the same things this place would be boring!

My opinion is the terms “hater” and “homer” are just too easy to label someone. It’s become a sadly acceptable form of name calling. In fact sometimes calling someone a hater is just a lazy way of saying you really don’t like someone’s opinion. No counter argument. No respectful dialogue. Just the tags.

I would argue that when someone throws out the term “hater” or “homer” they are really just surrendering their argument. Try saying something like, “Here’s where I disagree…”. That’s what makes this forum work best.

I think a large part is the frustration of fans who’ve seen decades go by with no clue by the GM , and money flushed down the toilet of unworthy players.
