I thought it would be interesting to create a Q&A thread for everyone on the site to ask any questions they have about CowboysZone.

I cannot promise I will answer all questions, but I will try my best to answer as many as possible!

** NOTE: Let's keep the trolling and general chatting out of this thread so everyone, including the users not asking questions, can learn about the site without having to wade through a lot of those kinds of posts!

So, what's your question about CowboysZone?

Thanks for allowing me to ask FYI questions i've always wanted to know here;

Why can posters not have the ability to Re-edit their posts past a short length of time ? i think it's only like 20 minute time period before that
post becomes permanent fixings.

Its like cement - swirl, decorate and initial it while it's warm and smooth..but once it cools, it becomes rock hard cement and there will be no chance
of re=working or re-wording it any later than that.

Imo, i would think posters should have the editing power to re-work, correct any re-wording in their posts .

Good question .. :D

Forum sites limit editing periods because some users post something they shouldn't, wait for people (or the person they are targeting) to see it, then delete it before a moderator sees it.

Of course you can always ask a moderator to edit your post for you! :D

That's not a question I will answer and you know it.

That said, the Zone Supporter thread shows all of the people who donate so you are free to draw your own conclusions.

As I have said many times over the years, CZ is not (nor has it ever been) a personal revenue stream for me.

If you decide to hang it up being the owner/operator, will you shut it down or hand it off to someone else or sell it?

I have no plans to hang it up any time soon, but *IF* that were to happen, I would definitely not just shut it down.

I hate when sites I spent years on shut down because the owners got bored, lost interest or sold it to some company that just wanted to merge it with their network to the point it lost its identify and community.

I would never want that to happen!

Sorry but I didn’t know it. The reason I ask is that I know it’s not a personal revenue stream for you so you would have no problem answering it.

Nice idea for a thread.

What's the most aggravating issue you deal with as Administrator? The most rewarding matter?

Completely unrelated, but how has the membership grown over the last few years?

Do you have to battle against much spam?
Definitely, but not like most forums.

Unlike most forums who let everyone sign-up and start posting, getting an account on CZ is very difficult and a time consuming process. I approve less than half of the accounts that register on CZ and the average wait time is 1-2 weeks for new accounts, though there are exceptions.

Most forum sites are reactive to spammers, where I am very proactive against them. I have several layers of protection in place for CowboysZone including some I developed myself. It's rare, but sometimes one will get through the first couple of layers, but they usually get caught before making it fully in to the site.

Who is the best poster in CBZ history?

hah I already know it's me!
*laughs*

There have actually been many great posters over the years since CZ launched. It would be nearly impossible to ever choose one in particular. :D

Most don't understand how much I hate seeing anyone benched, by me or by the moderators. I really wish people would listen to unofficial warnings, especially when posts are deleted.

That said, the one way to guarantee getting benched by me on this site is to repost something that was deleted by me or a moderator. If someone creates a thread or post and it is deleted (either by me or a moderator) and the user reposts it, it's almost guaranteed it will be deleted again once its seen and their account benched, sometimes for an extended period of time.
The most rewarding matter?
Random unsolicited "thank you's" :D

I don't mean the kind where users are trying to kiss up to me, but rather a genuine "thank you" from someone with no agenda.

I have never really focused on adding new members in the past.

I periodically purge old accounts (major one coming soon in fact) that keeps the total members from looking like its growing much, but it has grown.

When the DC.com forums shut down, the site added a lot of new members, though many of them had old accounts already they could log into.

Traffic wise though, CZ grows just about every year. While most forum sites have seen their traffic and activity decline in recent years due to social media, CZ has somehow defied that trend and keeps growing.

I know some users are not fond of a few of the rules we have here but I believe that formula along with a great level-headed staff is what has helped CZ survive and grow all of these years. The rest of the internet is filled with so much hate, trolling and insulting, I think most people are glad to have a site that tries its best to keep that stuff out.

Just curious if you know why the DC.com forums shut down? I'm sure you probably don't but maybe you have some insight. I was one of the users who came over when it was shut down.
