Have the Cowboys eliminated their 'tells'?

This is still a big question for me. Have the Cowboys identified and eliminated the tells that allowed the Rams to run all over them and eliminate them from the playoffs?

Do they know now what the Rams knew then?

Is this huge liability now eliminated from hurting the team again in 2019?

I've tried to search for something on this topic but all I've found is Jerry half-acknowledging the embarrassingly obvious and Garrett trying not to admit it at all.

Well Sean McVay threw a little wrinkle in the pre-snap movements and 250 yards later we are wondering why we can't stop the run and blaming the Defensive Tackles for it lol.

Hard to believe that the rams were the only team to be able to do that. Seemed like we didn’t commit to stopping the run. They were afraid to be burned by the pass.

Seems pretty simple. Set up a little differently each time you put your hand in the grass, or whatever stance you take.

No they haven't. Our defense can be as vanilla as our offense. And for these below average tackles playing the middle of our d-line to succeed they have got to get a jump on the ball which lends them to telling what they are going to do as the rams noticed. The patriots typically lose in pre-season as its a time they install the base offense and defense then continually build from there. That is a big reason you see them get better each week as both sides of the ball continually evolve, moving players around, providing different looks etc to give other teams something new and then still going back to things that work well for whichever personnel group is out there. We tend to do the same things over an over esp if we find a set of plays we like. Our coaches must do a better job of building off the success we have and implementing new plays/ formations to throw our opponents off balance while still playing to our strengths IE running similar plays our of different formations.

I think Marinelli and Richard will look over what took place in that game and all others through out the season and look to correct where is needed. Much of what I saw in the game was LB over pursuing and getting sealed off as the RB would cut back on them. I don't see the Cowboys making whole sale changes to a very good defense based on 1 game as if the 17 other games were meaningless.

Great post Stash and very valid questions. In order to attempt to answer the question I first want to say in most sports (specifically football and basketball), when Coaches feel the need to use games or gimmicks or a lot of tricks, it is usually a personnel issue that is being hidden. Or the coaches are attempting to hide a deficiency.

The games that Dallas plays on the DL is used to mask the lack of ability the 3tech and 1tech have at beating their man one on one. Same applies to the DEs not named Lawrence. Games are used in order to trick their way into pressure and penetration IMHO.

The Coaches are fully aware of the tells BUT have a chance to rectify the situation by improving the talent at the DT position via free agency and premium draft picks. The DE position needs more talent as well due to the Gregory conundrum. Until that talent is added, the same games will need to be played. To their credit, only two teams were able to capitalize on the "tells". But, the two teams were playoff teams so hopefully the front office will not be satisfied with the results being 16 out of 18 teams being unable to exploit "tells".

We shall see when free agency and the draft are complete.
