Have the Cowboys improved enough to make the playoffs?

Good question. I thought they were down last year . The bigger question might be , has the rest of division caught up.

It’s probably arguable that rest of division had better drafts and upgraded roster more. Will that be enough. We shall see. But I think they are still the favs to win division.
They are worse this season .......... Hurts has regressed.I know it's strange to say about an MVP Super Bowl QB but he lost his confidence. There were whispers among coaches and teammates over his refusal to use all his weapons. Read a nugget from a blogger who claims to have chopped up several of his games. A couple of things he said stood out.......Hurts rarely went to his 2nd or 3rd read and he had no confidence throwing in tight windows, only when his receivers were wide open. (The same thing was said about RG3 and Michael Vick. )

My point is ..........their defense will get them in most games, but Hurts and Sirrianni (ms) are on the hot seat.

This is some of what I was saying in my earlier post.......( about his confidence). Honestly, I think he's close to being done. IF they start losing and the offense is struggling, benching him would not be a surprise. They did it to Wentz.........

So, if you currently rank Phi 3rd in division , curious what your other rankings in division are. Is it Dallas 1st or Wash, NY. And who is 2nd?

I can’t imagine anyone going into season ranking two NFCE teams ahead of Phi.
I rank both Dallas and NY over Philadelphia. Honestly not sure how I rank 1 and 2 just yet. It’s close for me.

Ok.

I consider them worse.

The coordinator changes and losses will have a negative impact on the team and I think the soon-to-be loss of AJ Brown will also have a detrimental impact on the offense.

And I think they’ll really miss Stoutland.

I rank them third in the division right now.
The coordinator is going to have a positive impact because he was a bad coordinator. There is basically nowhere to go there but up. So basically coaching is sure to be an improvement and they seem to change coaches every year one way or another so that is unlikely to have a negative effect on them. Also considering that they were not using AJ Brown last year, relative to his status, his role can be filled by the players they signed and the one they drafted. I just don't see how they are worse as they will be coming into the year better and then it comes down to if their OLine stays healthy again.

That is why I said looking at players they will be about the same. I expect them to be in a close fight with Washington for the division, depending on QB health. I am also unsure how to judge Giants as they made a lot of moves and had a nice draft.

How loaded the NFC is outside of the division is why I think a wild card will be very very tough. All 4 teams in NFC North believe they can make the playoffs and 3 in the NFC West and unfortunately by rule someone in the NFC South must make the playoffs. Basically outside of the division winners there are going to be 8 teams fighting for 3 wild card spots in the NFC.

Similar to the Cowboys defense, but the difference is that Dallas was truly last. The Eagles were still 24th.

That’s simply not true. They did finish 24th after their last coaching change after all.

They’re still about to lose their best, #1 receiver.

I just don't see how they are worse as they will be coming into the year better and then it comes down to if their OLine stays healthy again.
‘Better’ how exactly?

And they lost the coach that made that offensive line.

Sounds like my rankings are the opposite of yours. I have Philly third and Washington last.

No one has a clue if Philly’s new OC will be effective just like no one knows if Dallas’ new DC will be effective. I get hoping the Eagles get bad, but assuming it’s happening is wishful thinking. When a team that just won 11 games, has been in two recent Super Bowls, winning one, yet has a head coach and quarterback on the “hot seat” you know how incredibly bad the Cowboys are.

The NFC East was the worst division in the NFL last season. It’s second place team was closer to fourth place than first place. I going to guess you’re not going to put any money on the Cowboys or Giants winning the division next season.

Interestingly, you make no mention of Hurts here, yet he's the main straw for their struggles. Who said anything about the Eagles 'new OC or Dallas new DC' or 'hoping ' the Eagles are bad? I didn't for the exact reason you stated.....no one knows how effective either coordinator will be. My prediction has zero to do with the Cowboys or how incredibly bad we are but everything to do with the Eagles' expectations and/or standards set over the last 2 years.

Poster ask the question.... the 2026 Eagles better or worse than the 2025 team?

Notice I made no mention of winning the division or going to the Super Bowl coz it's not hard to see they will be the favorite from the division. But that doesn't mean they are a better 2026 team or the league hasn't closed the gap. Hurts' issues are real and unless he/they figure it out, yeah, they are worse from 2025.

Their struggles and/challenges for 2026 are no secrets. Not sure why you are singling out one fan for bringing attention to them when they are all over the net.

Following a disappointing 2025 season, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts faced significant scrutiny regarding his role in a "calcified" offense, with reports highlighting a tense relationship with coaches, resistance to scheme changes (like going under center), excessive audibles, and poor body language. Despite his past success, critics point to his struggles against zone coverage and a, at times, fractured team environment.

2. Nick Sirianni, Philadelphia Eagles

If this seems ridiculous given Sirianni’s 59-26 record, three division titles, two trips to the Super Bowl and one championship in his four years … well, you don’t know Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie then. His standards are crazy high and there is deep disappointment inside his organization over the wasted opportunities in both 2023 and 2025.

Not all of that is directed at Sirianni, but sources said there has been internal frustration about his staffing choices and, at times, the way he manages what is sometimes a difficult locker room. But mostly it’s the late fade and playoff failures in those two seasons.

The Eagles will probably win double-digit games and the NFC East again in 2026. But if they don’t advance in the playoffs, no one will be shocked if they make a change.

It wouldn't surprise me much if this team wasn't quite able to make the playoffs. Too many changes seem to offer enough cause for doubt for the possibility that it won't happen. We will see, however.

This ^^^^^but I still ranked them first, but worse than last year. Their defense and Fiango is that good IMO. Hurts struggles are real ......... word is he refused to run certain plays due to a lack of confidence. The template for shutting down their offense is simple........stop run and take away Hurts' legs. He will not beat you with his arm. Losing AJ and Stoutland will hurt......

“standards are crazy high”…compared to what? That’s my point. Here hope is pinned on a coach that’s never been a DC before and a rookie safety that wasn’t selected as early as expected in the draft.

You are confusing me.....what does this have to do with the original question asked? Is the Eagles' 2026 team worse or better than the 2025 team? It makes no mention of the Cowboys or their season, nor does it compare the Cowboys' season to the Eagles or any other team in the division.

They have the players to make a run in the playoffs it just depends on their maturation time.

Agreed. NFC is very tough now with a number of promising , young highly drafted QBs leading their teams. The days of it being a down conference/putrid division where we could just waltz to 12 wins are over.

I think a few can be true at the same time.

1) The roster can improve.
2) We finish 3rd or 4th in the division.

Philly might not be as good, but hasn't been dethroned yet in the East. Harbaugh and a good draft from NY. Dart will have more experience and better coaching. Washington looks like they had a pretty draft on paper. Daniels probably won't be as injured.

Yeah I'd argue that Shotty would be on the hot seat with another playoff miss. I'm not ready to pencil the Cowboys into the super bowl yet, but I like their playoff odds. While I still think they are quite thin in a few areas they have enough pieces where they should be able to win 10 games. It seems like a reasonable expectation to me.
If I was Vegas I would put the over/under on Dallas at 9 games.

Hurts never did go to his 2nd/3rd reads.

Hurts didn't regress, he stopped running, most likely due to injury. No other reason makes sense.

Hurts was always a one read QB. Looking at his career, this is the standard career arc for running QBs. After 1-5 yrs, they take a major step back as their injuries start to pile up. Lamar lasted longer than most, but he really hasn't been good for the last couple years. Why do you think Harbaugh was OK to leave? Writing on wall.

It's blatantly obvious that Eagles are on the downslide. Their run is over. Only reason they won the division last year is because Jerry did a horrfic job of GMing, namely building a decent D. If our D is 15th last year, we easily win the division.

Depends on a few things that won't be able to tell until training camp-week 1. Mainly corner, edge, linebacker health. If those 3 things are cool its an easy yes.
