Exactly, and that's what I'm trying to say to Lou. If our front 3 can clog up the middle and push the pocket, the QB can't step up. He's forced to either roll out into the hands of the OLBs like Von Miller or Eze or Justin Houston. Or, if he stays where he is without getting the ball out, he gets taken down by either Overshown, Von Miller, Barham, Williams, or Barham. If he does manage to get the ball out, chances are, Downs and Bland will pick it off.

Exactly, and that's where I think our dline will be helpful. Not only will Quinnen and Clark be able to help draw double teams (as Quinnen did last year), but they are strong enough to push the middle of the pocket. If the QB can't step up, then he's basically a sitting duck for the pass rush. Chances are, our offense has a higher chance that way of getting a shorter field. With how lethal our offense should be, that can be the difference between a close game, and us demolishing an opponent. And, more importantly, come playoff time, that's usually the difference between winning and losing in the playoffs.

Genuinely curious, and this isnt to spark an angry debate.

This is a genuine question from someone that has seen this happen time and time again and wants to gauge why this happens here all the time.

Have we as a fanbase, become so used to Jerry and his family failing, that any time he does the BARE MINIMUM of his job description, we praise him for it?

Are we this conditioned by his terrible off-seasons that when he does literally the bare minimum of signing a guy on time or using FA the way everyone else does we celebrate it like we just won our 6th?

Why do fans who are justifiably upset and taking a wait and see approach ostracized so much on this site?

I am excited about the moves that were made, but I am cautiously optimistic mainly because I have 0 faith in the head coach of this team.

Can they prove me wrong, of course, and I will be the first to admit it, but can we stop praising people for showing up to work?

And, just to be clear. This was I think why we were unsuccessful in the playoffs with Parsons. We didn't have enough physicality or need to help Parsons. Thus, A. Parsons was usually drained by the time the playoffs arrived and B. We didn't have enough to compete with the big boys. Now, I think we have a much better chance of competing with the likes of the Rams, Chiefs, Broncos, Pats, and Seahawks.

Exactly, it's about being able to dominate the opposing oline and crush the QB and RB. That's why I wanted beef up front. That's why Parsons struggled as the seasons wore on. We didn't have enough firepower up front to help him, and our style of play was not conducive to being able to hault opposing offenses that could beat the finesse style of defence. I think the way they're trying to build the defence actually allows us to compete and dominate in both ways. It's why I said it was interesting how, with Quinn, we were equipped to play with a lead but not from behind. Now, the defence appears to be being built for both playing in front and behind.

It's not meant, from me, to be a gotcha thing. For me, we are running a different style of defence than we have in a long time. So, whatever you want to call it, we have an NT, Edges/DEs, OLBs, ILBs, and DBs. In the 4-3 base and extensions we had been running, we were running DTs, Edges/DEs, LBs, and DBs. Overton and Bullard will probably be your DEs/Edges (however you want to think of it). The point is, whether it be a nickel or a 3-4, you're still likely to have 3 dlinemen up front. And the way they have been assembled, in my view, is more conducive to being more physical and allowing the LBs/DBs to do what they need to do. Would I like another top pass rusher? Yes. I'd love a Charles Haley type rusher. But again, in our 3-4/nickel base, I think what we have should suffice for now. And I think Von Miller will be a big help to Justin Houston and the other pass rushers we have. And with the DBs we now have? I think we genuinely will be dangerous on defence this year.

That's literally the NT's job. If he does get a one on one, then either someone on the other team's oline blew their assignment and he should be able to get a massive loss, or he blew his assignment. And the fact he can penetrate is why he gets double teamed, and the rest of the team will benefit from that. That's why this style should be more successful, especially against the big boys.

That is absolutely 100% not what getting doubles means.

A player gets doubled because a single blocker can't handle him. It means he is penetrating or collapsing the pocket.

Grabbing other players, sheesh. You really don't know that's a penalty? This is one weird convo!!!!!
