Make no mistake, the media loves the Cowboys. They don't root for us or against us when it comes to winning, but they truly LOVE this team. Jim Rome flat out admitted it.
Cowboys = Ratings. And that is all that they care about. It's their job. Their profession. They need people to watch. Period.
Therefore, good or bad, everything we do is
magnified. In some offseasons we are picked to win it all by so many "experts" that it makes the other NFL fans sick. Our QB won his first game over Carolina and became a media darling overnight. We hit 3-0 last season and soared to the top of every power ranking out there. We're "America's Team". Commentators shout things like "The legend of Tony Romo continues to grow!!!", and the guy hasn't even won a playoff game yet. Year after year we have the most nationally televised games. You don't care about the Cowboys? You're out of luck buddy.
And we all know about the other side of that "magnification". When we went 3-1 last season we not only weren't the best team in the league anymore, but not even the 2nd best team in our division. The Skips of the world said, "I told you so". When we lose we are the laughing stock of the NFL. The first thing to talk about on Around the Horn, First and Ten, or PTI. The only thing that could screw a man who registered 20 sacks in one season out of the DPOTY award? A collapse by the Dallas Cowboys. What a shame.
The truth is, the media goes how the Cowboys go. If we had won the superbowl last year, the media love would make even the most diehard Cowboy homer sick to his stomach. But we collapsed late in the season, in an absolutely pathetic effort. So now Roy Williams is only about as good the Giants' Steve freakin' Smith, and Tony Romo is being ranked behind QBs like Aaron Rogers in fantasy football.
Enough with the "the media hates us" stuff. Fans of the other NFL teams also sound silly when they make it sound like the media/NFL/refs "want the Cowboys to win a superbowl". Untrue. Don't delude yourself into thinking that they care if we win or lose. They simply care. Period. And I have no problem with that. It means that I can turn on my TV any time I want and hear some Cowboys talk. I love it the most when it is negative. I mean, what fun would sports be if everyone actually thought your team was going to do well?
Embrace the love. Embrace the hate. Embrace it all. America's Team baby!
