Just curious.....what the heck kind shelter can seek ( on a secluded island by the way ) from an incoming missile?

Even if a missile is bearing down on Hawaii, are they really going to text their residents? It would be insane chaos on a island with nowhere to go. I don't think that is anything anybody wants to see.

I'm sure there are at least a few people with bomb shelters, boats, or unfinished business.

I can't speak for Hawaii, but I can tell you I know all of the locations of bomb shelters around my area. Couple of things, there wouldn't be enough time to get them filled up if a missile was detected. I'm sure some would, but they would have to be a weirdo like me and know where they are. Common folks don't just have them.
Secondly, they're all empty and not stocked. Some are even closed off.
Thirdly, there are very few shelters still in existence. They don't build them into new construction like they used to during the scare era.
Best thing is hit the basement or find a concrete bldg.

Yikes, someone is going to lose their job. The bars in Hawaii are going to have a good sales day as many people try to calm their nerves.

Hawaii residents wake up to false alarm of imminent missile attack

Hawaii residents woke up to emergency alerts on their phones today about an imminent ballistic missile attack which they later learned was a false alarm.

The emergency alert was sent to people's mobile phones in Hawaii at about 8:08 a.m. local time with the startling words, "BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL."

A spokesman for the U.S. Pacific Command, Dave Benham, told ABC News in a statement that no ballistic missile threat to Hawaii was detected.

"Earlier message was sent in error. State of Hawaii will send out a correction message as soon as possible," Benham said.
Man, that had to be brutal.

Yet another problem with the technological miracles in the modern era. Before cell phones, they could have rescinded the message before anyone even heard it.

I know right. I sometimes wonder if humanity is to dependent on technology, especially in important matters like this. i remember in a documentary about the cold war there was a incident menioned that almost lead to nuclear war . I guess the soviet union had some sort of detection equipment
That let them know if america had launchd its nuclear warheads and if they were headed towrd Russia .I guess there was a engineering
Officer in the soviet union that received the message and had to decide wither or not to launch a counter strike. He decided to check the equipment and found out it was suffering from some sort of electrical malfunction.

Remember the big Paris Summit with Bush Sr, Mitterand, Kole, and Horny that heralded the end of the Cold War and a new age of global peace and prosperity? Seems like ancient history.

The Pearl Harbor attack force was one of the luckiest in history. There were so many ways IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DETECTED but was not. All evidence something was happening was ignored or explained away. From the sub sighted and attacked more than an hour before the air attack to the radar sighting them as they came in - just incredible when you look at it. No one wanted to believe the Japanese would take that big a risk. Because it was a huge risk; a tremendous gamble. One of the reasons the conspiracy theorists claim that FDR knew about it ahead of time; which was ridiculous.

Well said. It blows my mind that they didn't go on alert after that ship sank that mini-sub. They didn't believe that junior commander who had done the sinking.
