since when did they put an ' in Hawaii....

I am watching the Hawaii Bowl and they are spelling it Hawai'i Bowl and Hawai'i on the scoreboard. I honestly have never seen it spelled like that before.

It's always been spelled like that. It's the correct version in Hawaiian. It's called an okina.
