Cowboys have been linked to Haynes King (Cowboys Meet Haynes King). i have been watching some tap of his and he looks like a in the wings QB to develop and if Dak goes down in the next few years. Non of us know how his break up with SJR and her moving herself and the girls to Florida is going to affect him. Should we use 1 of our 5th round picks on him?

Eh, could do worse for a project player I guess.

90% of his tape doesn't translate to the NFL though. That read-option stuff is pretty irrelevant, doesn't look like he does much as far as progressions.

In the 6th as a RB/gadget player? Yeah I would take that chance. Could be wrong, but I don’t see King playing QB in the NFL. But he has good size, is a great athlete, and is tough as nails so there should be a spot in the NFL for him.

He’s also going to enter training camp as a 25 year old rookie…not exactly ideal for a developmental QB.

oh yeah he's raw and needs development. but he's working with Pat Mahomes QB Coach and since he started that his accuracy has gone from 60% to almost 80%. i think he needs about 2 - 3 years of Work reading NFL defenses but as far as traits go he's better than Dak coming out and throws the ball better. Id take a late round flyer on him.

I like the Gadget player idea, maybe a WR switch? he's got the speed and athleticism.

Completion percentage in college isn't indicative of being an accurate passer. He doesn't have to throw into tight windows and doesn't have to progress.

He's not better than Dak was in college at anything

Yeah, I’d throw a 5th rounder at him.

I think it’s interesting the Cowboys hav shown they are interested in QBs that can run. From Trey Lance, Milton, Howell is also a guy that can hurt you with his legs.

Can't see them drafting a QB this year.
Probably will bring in an UDFA, maybe. They only went with 3 last year going into TC.

They will invite a QB to rookie mini camp. Need a body to throw the ball. If looks good, they could sign him.

Yeah,
Let's drop a 5th on a poor man's Taysom Hill!
Or a better Dak prescott. the Draft is a crap shoot. but his skills are better than Daks coming out. look what Dak has turned himself in too. you never know about a kid until you get them and train them.

Quite simply, no. He’s an above average college QB. We don’t need to use draft capital on a long term developmental QB.

As an UDFA…maybe. But there are ten other guys out there with similar skill sets as UDFAs. Why is this guy special?

Do you even watch SEC football?
Dak was being touted as a possible late first early 2nd during his junior season before offensive line issues during his senior year lead to questions about him being able to operate outside of a spread offense. He was still considered a 3rd round talent who fell to the fourth due to character issues revolving around an incident at a beach.

Eh, 6th or 7th.

I liked him as a college QB. But his arm isn't that special, and he was banged up to end the 24 and 25 seasons(shoulders) from running the ball so often.
What I do like about him is that he is that 100% effort team guy. However, NFL upside I'm not sure he's even a lock to be a solid #2.

His first year at Tech he was more of a gunslinger and Buster's offense was more of a big play explosive but risky game. He had a lot of TDs but also a lot of INTs.
Brent Key wanted to be more a run first team, and in 24 and 25 Tech was a bit more conservative, and to Kings credit he cut down the INTs big time. Passing TDs dropped but I believe it was just due to wanting to run the ball more and I don't think King was ever a selfish-I need stats type of player.

He's actually a very good runner, and has the wheels to break open runs, when not asked to kill himself vs DTs and LBs. Curious to see if any team wants him to at least try out at RB.

If I'm taking a late round flyer on a super athletic QB I'm taking the one from Arkansas,

I agree. I think we'll give Milton another year to show progress before getting a different developmental QB.

I would try to sign him to a free agent contract, I think he's not going to get drafted. Yeah, I could be wrong.

King is a Tebow kind of guy, fast and athletic, a great college running quarterback.

However, he is an inaccurate passer, the shorter he throws it. He would have to be developed and the Cowboys already have two guys that are further ahead in that regards.

The Cowboys don't exactly have a reputation of stockpiling quarterbacks. Three is typically the maximum, even during training camp, which I don't understand.

Having said that, if they take King in the 6th round and immediately waive either Howell or Milton then somebody in the building is convinced he's pretty special.
