"Whatever they ask me to do, that's what I'm gonna do," Haynesworth said. "I'm not gonna be a distraction or anything. I'm just gonna do what they ask me to do."

Too late Albert, you already are

Haynesworth could buy his freedom in 2011

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 23, 2010 12:55 PM ET

The Commanders made some under-the-radar accounting moves two weeks ago that will help them take advantage of the uncapped year.

Former Commanders salary cap analyst J.I. Halsell, who now writes for FootballOutsiders, has an interesting piece detailing renegotiations for DeAngelo Hall and Albert Haynesworth.

The team converted hefty option bonuses for each player to signing bonuses. As a result, the Commanders total team salary for 2010 jumped from $141.6 million to $170 million. The Commanders are loading up the payroll now to save later if a salary cap returns.

Halsell explains the moves in great detail, but there is one very intriguing provision. Both Hayesworth and Hall could buy their freedom and become unrestricted free agents in 2011.

The cost is almost surely prohibitive. Haynesworth could return $16.8 million of his $21 million 2010 signing bonus if he wanted to leave. Hall would have to pay back his $15 million bonus to become a free agent.

Haynesworth's best earning potential should remain in Washington, so we don't see this being a major story next offseason.

We do see G.M Bruce Allen's payroll maneuvering benefiting the team in 2011.

that's what you get for selling your soul for money and not going to a winner...you end up playing NT on a crappy team who isn't going anywhere for at least 5 years wasting the prime of your career

That's why I don't like these rediculous signing bonuses that owners give players these days. In Haynsworth's case, he's being given $21 Million in guaranteed money to not care that his prime is being wasted on a bad team going nowhere.

Does that mean they now take over the Cowboys as the team with the highest payroll this year?

There's no way a person like Hall still has enough money to pay it back. Those dollars were spent long ago.
