It's that time of the year folks. The summer heat can be a killer.

Please spread this news so it can hopefully be avoided in the future...........

Hays infant dies after being left in car
The Associated Press

HAYS, Kan. - Hays police are investigating the death of an infant child who was left inside a locked car.

Assistant Police Chief Philip Hartsfield says the infant was found dead Thursday about 3:20 p.m. Hartsfield says police believe the baby was left inside the car sometime before 8:00 a.m.

Temperatures in Hays Thursday were in excess of 90 degrees.

No one has been arrested. Hartsfield says the death appears to be a tragic accident.

The investigation is continuing. Hartsfield says officers are working with the county attorney to determine what charges, if any, would be filed.

Usually happens when the mother or father forgets to drop the kid off at daycare, instead driving directly to work. By the time they realize their mistake, it's too late.

I will never, NEVER understand this.

I cannot accept that someone's life is so busy that any thought takes priority over their own infant.

This mortifies me every summer.

We had two incidents in one day here about a week ago. Thankfully the kids were ok. One mother took an hour and a half to even show up on the scene after the kid had been in the car 45 mins before they got her out. They took all of her kids away from her.

A few years ago a youth minister forgot he had his baby in the car because he was late for a meeting. He's in serving time for it.

What a terrible way to die. It's like being put in an oven and turning it on low.

Gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it.

this is bull****

last night I went to an Oriole game, and this couple brought their baby along, nothing wrong with that at all, but seeing how cute and defenseless babies are makes me mad as hell when I read these stories

babies need their parents to protect them, again, bull****

I will never understand forgetting your kid is in the car. Just how far must your head be up your *** to do that?

Luckily, at least in my experience, if someone sees a kid in a car by themself, even if only for a few minutes, they usually call the police department.

If the kid falls asleep and you've got other things on your mind, or if you're distracted by a cell phone call, it can happen.

Even more of a reason to bludgeon a fool.
The car isn't your living room, stay off the phone and keep your wits about you, including knowing who's in the back seat.

I don't know how you can face your spouse after making a lethal mistake like this. I'm sure a lot of marriages crumble as a result.

Not just your spouse, but basically anyone. How would you ever be able to tell anyone what actually happened without that person immediately thinking of you as some sort of monster?

I broke into a car for a woman one time. She locked her baby and the keys inside the car accidentally. It was freaking hot too. The baby was crying and I finally convinced her that the window was not worth the risk to her child to wait until a locksmith could arrive. She was afraid her husband would be pissed off about the broken window. Just baffled me.

I hate when people leave dogs in cars too, even with the windows cracked it is still cruel.

I remember seeing this rich lady in a suburban call the fire department when she locked her child in the car with it running. Women. With money.

That's actually part of department policy here. If someone is locked inside or the car is running, the fire department responds and will open your car for you. If you don't meet one of those two criteria though? Locksmith time.

Exactly. There is absolutely no way in my sons 8 yrs that I have even SLIGHTLY forgot to drop him where he was supposed to go. I understand this happens but it doesn't mean I have to accept that "oops".

This brings back ugly memories of my neighbor. She thought she had already dropped her son at daycare. Luckily, a security guard was walking around the parking lot and noticed her son in the back, sleeping. It could have been very tragic. Had the security guard not been patrolling the area, her boy would have died. Scary.
