I'm currently getting both for free because of my three loyal years of paying Direct TV my money, but I am too cheap to pay for both when it comes to an end on July 31. Which one is better in your opinion?

For HBO, I really like True Blood and that new series "Hung" seems to be pretty funny.

For Showtime, I am getting pretty hooked on Dexter (even though it is a little warped) and am starting to watch the Tudors.

Showtime. Dexter is my all-time favorite. You should call up and try to get Showtime for free (when current promotion it is about to expire).

HBO during football season Real Sports with Gumbel and Hardknocks, plus a lot of other sports stuff

Real Sports with Gumbel to me have been underrated, they have provided so many good stories throughout they years.

I like both but I keep Showtime only because of Dexter. I can't remember the last time I watched a movie.

Why are you asking this question? You have both, when the time comes you will have a favorite. If not, then it doesn't matter which as you like them all the same.

Ive got the package where I get all the movie channels. Consider how much boring garbage plays on some of the movie channels it's good to have other choices. Though there are many times when even then there is **** to watch on TV.

Hard to pick one if you are into the series.

Showtime series..

Dexter
Weeds
Californication
Nurse Jackie (new one)
Inside the NFL (they took it once HBO dropped it)
The Tudors
Secret life of a Call Girl (not sure if they are still doing this one)
United States of Tara
And a few others

HBO Series...

True Blood
Entourage
Hung (new series)
Big Love
In Treatment
Bill Maher
The No1 ladies detective agency
Flight of the Concords
Curb Your Enthusiasm
East Bound and Down

However something that might tip the scales for you is that HBO is going to have a mini-series next year called Pacific. Speilberg/Hanks are doing it and it is a WWII drama which seems to be similar to band of brothers except this one is going to be in the pacific theater...aptly named Pacific.

Definitely HBO.

Brand new Curb Your Enthusiasm season starts in September. Entourage starts in a few weeks.

Plus like others have said, Hung, True Blood, Big Love, etc.

Then throw in all the sports stuff and the best Saturday Night movie premiers, it's an easy decision. The only thing that would keep me on Showtime is Dexter.

I'm not going to be able to see all of the stuff coming up after July, so I wanted the input since they are both pretty equal to me right now. Some of the folks nailed it pretty good in their responses.

Too bad you are not on cable.

Cable has HBO and Showtime (as well as stars and cinemax) on demand.

Currently they have all three seasons of dexter.

I watched the first two the last week or so.

On-Demand alone is worth the price of my cable bill.

So many choices...

How is the HD? I am moving cross country soon and will face the difficult decision of possibly giving up Direct TV.
