I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling that just like the post-Jimmy days, the post-BP days will be much the same, as far as Jerry is concerned.

Jimmy and his staff built the Cowboys into back-to-back champions. When Jimmy left, Jerry thought he had learned enough by watching Jimmy and felt he could run the team on a day to day basis just as well.

It was a dismal failure and he finally relented and brought in another imposing figure as HC in Parcells. While BP wasn't nearly as successful, he did make us respectful and got us back into the hunt an injected us with considerbably more talent.

Now, after yielding out so much control again, I think Jerry will reel it back in. I'm sure, just like with Jimmy, Jerry probably feels after watching how BP ran things that he can step back in and continue the job.

I think BP took this team as far as he could. But now, I have a feeling Jerry is not going to want to give out that amount of power again and he's going to want to go back to controlling personnel and being the face of the organization thinking he legitimately has learned from his past mistakes, when in fact he hasn't.

One thing I've come to know the last 15 years is that you can never underestimate the power of Jerry's ego.

haha, sad thing is i thought of that too. Actually he would probly be one of the better owners to do this. I realize AL Davis but I mean he's been around football his whole life......But he would totally blow and ruin my life. Then again i could so see this happening, i mean it is Jerry Jones. Who believes in himself more than anyone.

well, you just have to hope 3 straight 5-11 seasons will keep that ego in check. Only a fool would go back to doing things the same way and expect different results.

Don't underestimate Jerry. He's a proven fool. See drafts from 94-02, or firing your back to back SB winning coach, or signing malignant tumor Owens.

Part of me wouldnt mind seeing Jerry coach for a year so he can go after a real coach next year. I hate to see him reach for a guy like Phillips. Plus it might get it out of his system when he realizes he cant do it.

He will do things differently this time. This time Norv Turner will be the puppet instead of Dave Campo. Different right???

Guys, get ready to see this franchise sent farther into the pro football abyss thanks to Jerry Jones. I'm afraid it will never get better until Jerrah is six feet under.

The title is a little misleading I guess. I don't mean Jerry will literally be the HC, but only that he'll probably take back all the power, hire and dictate who the assistants will be, take over all personnel decisions and basically run the team on a day to day basis in everything just short of calling X's and O's.
You know...kinda like the Campo years.

That would assure us the first pick in the 2008 draft!:laugh2:

I don't think we're going to be seeing head coach Jones anytime soon, he seems to have learned his lesson, and says he defers to the football guys on most matters

I'm gonna bet otherwise. I think ole Plasticface knows he's running out of time to win another Superbowl. I think he's going to make a good hire and give the new HC enough control to succeed.

No, really.

I really don't think Jerry Jones is going to go back to his "old ways" as a meddling owner & coach killing GM.

In Jones's official statement concerning Parcell's departure:

``From an ownership and general manager's perspective, Bill's coaching the Cowboys represented a willingness to embrace a different philosophy and approach toward winning. This experience will reinforce that willingness to be flexible."

I am taking Jones at his word. I think he IS a changed man. I am optimistic that he will bring in a strong head coach and give him room to get the job done.

David S.

===================
Statement from Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about the retirement of Bill Parcells as coach:

``I'd first like to say that my respect and appreciation for Bill Parcells has only grown since the first day he joined the Dallas Cowboys. Our relationship, both on the professional and personal levels, is something that I am grateful for and something that will continue on into the future.

``It is a relationship that was structured around the fundamental element of applying all of our joint resources, energy and efforts into winning and being successful in every aspect of the organization.

``We are now prepared to move forward as an organization and pursue our goals of achieving at the highest level with the same dedication and enthusiasm. Fans of the Dallas Cowboys expect nothing less.

``From an ownership and general manager's perspective, Bill's coaching the Cowboys represented a willingness to embrace a different philosophy and approach toward winning. This experience will reinforce that willingness to be flexible.

``To our fans, I would like them to know that it is still all about winning. Winning is the name of the game, and nothing has changed.

``We have made progress on that front in the recent past, and we will continue to build on that progress with the belief that we have to do better.

``Bill will continue to come to work here at Valley Ranch throughout at least the end of this week, and we will continue to meet and address the present status of our team while also discussing the future. Clearly, we wanted Bill to return for next season, but I am completely understanding and respectful of his decision to retire from coaching.

``His contributions to the game of football, and to the NFL, are immeasurable, and we will always be grateful for his dedicated effort and commitment to the Dallas Cowboys.''

I hope your right but with Jones you never know. I'm afraid the new hc will be a puppet and and Jones will hire his staff for him and take over the draft completely...again.

Jerry's alot of things, but stupid ain't one of them. He evolved through the Campo and Gaily years, however slowly, and obviously learned some lesson's. That's how the deal with BP came about. He understood fully WHO he was getting and HOW he operate's. I heard little to nothing the last four years about Jerry "meddling and interfering". I don't see him regressing and going backward in his ways. If anything, he'll continue forward in his understanding of his place in the organization.
I mean, how dumn can he be to think that resorting to the way he operated with Switzer, Campo and Gailey will help in any way.
I don't see it happening.

As far as business Jerry is brilliant to the point of lawyer-like shady.

Football-wise Jerry is a blithering idiot.

He started meddling again about a year ago when he introduced T.O.

Now we are sitting here scared to death because Wade "Medeocre" Phillips seems to be the leading candidate to coach this once proud franchise called "America's Team".

This looks like to me the '94-'02 Jerry again.

Please pray I'm wrong.
