I love the Jason Garrett as Head Coach idea...I think he is more than capable of doing us proud. Does he know everything... no.. he doesn't but who does. I am also not sure what the hangup with him not having called plays is...Heck Marty doesn't even wear a headset...play calling should be left to the coordinators... a head coach has to have people skills, needs to have football knowledge, needs to have leadership and a vision and Garrett has that in spades... I can't think of a finer selection from the coaches that are available.

I really hope Jerry makes it happen. to those non believers if it does happen..you just mark ole Zax's words and enjoy the ride :)

garrett would be best served if he's given a couple of years as a coordinator before he's promoted to become a head coach. if jerry makes him a head coach, he better make sure that he gets him some damn good coordinators on both sides of the ball. running a team ain't easy. and even though he's a very smart guy, he needs to spend some time understand the nuances of team management. just like the cowboys spent time grooming romo, they should spend a couple of years atleast grooming garrett. turning him lose as the head coach already might be setting him up for faliure.

Excellent point.

Game management is a highly critical component for a HC... but as a ex QB it shouldn't be much of a difference.

Jason has been around Football all his life and so has his brothers and his father that is what they do and that is what they talk about. So in essence Jason has about 40 years of football experience...which I think is probably enough to see him through any problems that may arise.

I like Jason, but I hate the unknown. I think he would be a good person in our organization. If we can get him at a level below HC, then we should do that for sure, but search for some experience at the HC position.

i think it could be a rough couple of years before he gets his bearings, but hey - i wanted romo in a few years ago for the same reasons. well, not the same but similiar where they were close. : )

garrett is coming home - and i'm growing onto the idea even though he was never on the "radar" as a sexy potential name. i think he'll do fine in the end.

I can understand the apprehension Jer, but Jason really is a wonderful selection.. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how smooth it will be

If Jerry Jones has hopes of returning this franchise to being a contender year after year then his best option is to hire a coach with his eye to the future. Then let that coach pick his staff and have a significant input on player personnel.

If Jason Garrett is the coach Jones sees as that man then he should do it now and not put some lameduck HC in, which IMO can only lead to a divided locker room. This is the perfect time to do it as we have a young roster and many of our coaches have either left or are not under contract.

Fans will need to understand this is a move invested in the longterm future of this organization, And understand there will be growing pains and mistakes made.

If Jones takes this road IMO it will signal he really has learned the lessons of the past. I would support it and I think most fans would as well.

I can't help but think about the years from 1960 thru 1964 when after 4 years of some really bad football with the media and the fans clamoring for Landrys job, Tex Schram gave Tom a new 10 year contract. That is the move which set the standard and allowed this franchise to become one of the most successful in NFL history.

Does Jerry have the courage to make such a move, I for one hope so........
