Yours is a HD DVR or just HD Reciever from DirecTV? I am planning on the hooking up the antenna myself this weekend, so that if Directv doesn't broadcast Cowboys game in HD in their NFL ticket channels ( i.e. black out, which they are not supposed to do anymore, even if the game is on local channel), I can get the game in local channel at least. I have to hook it up via my HD DVR though, I hope that it will work, so we shall see.

HD/DVR (HR10-250)...

Hook up the antenna...I have not counted, but I'm getting around 8 more channels that can get HD. I saw about 4 shows on local channels come through in HD...terrific picture. I'm glad I did it.

FYI - THis is the antenna I got from radio shack (was recommended) http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2131034&cp=&pg=2&origkw=hdtv+antenna&kw=hdtv+antenna&parentPage=search

I'm getting a great signal...takes a while to hook up...make sure you back through your tivo setup and add satelite AND antenna.

The normal customer service folks are useless. There is a customer retention phone number that you should call. I will dig up the phone number and post it.

Tuna Helper if you could that would be great, thanks!!

Man thats a co-incidence, thats the exact antenna I was planning on buying ;) And yeah, I am planning to do it via TiVo setup, that the Tivo says you can do it through.

Thanks for the tip. One more thing, are you able to record those that you get through that antenna in HD?

Yep...it worked last night just fine.

Another tip...when you connect everything it may not do anything...after you go throug set up....then go to the "test antenna" area and go though all the frequency's until you get a signal, then play with the "gain" (mine is set at 2), and the degree until you get the strongest signal.

At first I did not get a signal until I cruised through the frequency...I'm getting about 92.

Then the last thing...go to where you set your channels "favorites"...there will be a new one for local...do the search. It will bring back everything you can get...I'm getting more then I thought I would.

Good luck!

I love watching HD games and shows. However, it seems that on non HD channels, that the picture is strecthed and don't fit my screen. I may not have the settings correct, so it could be my fault. I have a 42 in plasma. Is this a common thing with HD recievers from DTV?

Yes.

That happens to me too. If the broadcast is not in HDTV, it doesn't fit on the entire screen.

This is of particular problem with NFL Network because it's still not broadcasting in true HDTV and it doesn't have its own HD companion channel like ESPN and the local channels, which have HD channels a channel below the regular channel.

I have HD cable and a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma. The picture on the analog and even some of the digital stations is not nearly as good as on my tube tv. Sometimes people look shorter and fatter on the non HD stations.

Hopefully, once all stations go digital and in widescreen, that problem will go away.

If you use a VCR, the picture will also not be nearly as good on taped shows/movies.

Thanks very much for this thread. After viewing it I decided to call DirecTV and just check.

My equipment was not what I had ordered. So be wary.

The good news is the HR20-700 HDVR is available; at least in Virginia. The bad news is I have to wait until Sep26 and pay $399. At least my initial installation was free. I could not get them to get off the charge of $399 for the receiver, dish, and installation of the proper equipment.

I am calling back now and they are somewhat more receptive. At least I'm on hold to an account specialist.

Oops, great news! I mentioned that my wife was very unhappy upon calling back (true) and they said I was a premier customer then gave me Superfan for free, the dish, the HDVR, and installation for free, four months free then $9.99 per month for the HD. I also get to keep the DVR if I just relocate it as well as 9 months of Superfan for free.

I'm sorry to bore the majority of you, but just in case there is someone as dumb and blind as me, here is one way to correct a problem.

I wondered why everyone's HD was better than mine. DUH!

Well to be clear, NFL Network does have their own HD companion channel but it so happens DirecTv doesnt carry it.

Course you'd still have the same issue anyway cause 95% of the time the programming on that channel isnt HD. Which is prolly why DirecTv doesnt bother carrying it in the first place. ;)

Dish Network carry's it. Course thats just part of their feeble attempt at suggesting they carry as much NFL football HD stuff as DirecTv. :D

I'm one of those that uses both services since I prefer Dish overall but I've been grandfathered in with nothing but NFL-ST with DirecTv for quite a few years.

Every year I keep hearing people say.. they're gonna stop that.. no more ala-carte on ST even if you're grandfathered. Gonna have to belly up for Total Choice as a base package first.

I keep saying I doubt that since it throws $200.00+ their way for doing nothing more than keeping my receiver activated to receive it.

So far, I've been right. ;)
