I have two teams in the girls Class 1A Division I and Division II State Tournament in Austin this week.

Going to leave tomorrow morning. I lover covering the state tournament. Get to watch some great basketball.

I will be there Wednesday, Thursday., Friday, and Saturday.

Any places in Austin me and wife should check out? Going to have our three little ones with us, 5, two and 17 months.

I know I want to eat some good bar-b-q, and I heard The Salt Lick in Driftwood was a place to check out.

I would definitely recommend a few places. But what sorts of things do you like? For BBQ, try Stubbs. It's downtown and you can walk around the city or drive. I would definitely go to Barton Springs pool or the park just to check it out. Austin is a cool place to eat and just soak up some rays. You'll have fun I'm sure.

Thanks! I hope we have some fun. My first game is Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m., will hopefully be done around 11 a.m.

My next game won't be until Friday at 2 p.m. So we have some time to get around and check out the sights.

My wife wants to check out the state capitol.

The state capital is OK. I would also head over to the Bob Bullock Texas State History museum. And check out the imax theatre. That's usually a good stop.

driftwood is going to be a little bit of a drive for you. they also have another salt lick in round rock which is a lot closer.

but the best bbq in austin is Franklins bar none and it's right across the highway, 5 minutes from the Erwin Center.

they sell out everyday so you want to get their early before the lines form.

check out Mount Bonnell for nice scenery pics...the there on 360/2222 is beautiful, Mozart's for coffee/pastries or the Hula Hut for alcoholic beverages. both are right next to each other on the lake.

many things to do, just depends what you're interested in.

I've yet to try out Franklin's BBQ. But whoever did that buy-out of what was once Ben's BBQ did a number on that business. I lived nearby there a while back, because it was close to campus, and I never saw much business at Ben's.

Now I see they "sell out", but I think that's some hipster's way of saying, "business was good. I'm off for the day."

Lunch and done is what they do....

But yeah, try both... I haven't even tried Franklin's, but it's on my to-do list now.

O, yeah, that and i'm about to open a business in that area..just a tad bit east..

It's pretty good, but not sure I would put it as the best in the nation. Ribs are better than the brisket to me atleast. They have 3 different sauces that are all alright, but nothing too great.

Like they said above - prepare to stand in line 2+ hours, and for me - it's not worth that kind of wait.

I have a friend that works there, he stokes the fire at 3 am, he brings me stuff, I buy him shots at the bar, I get the better deal I think:D

You can NEVER go wrong with The Salt Lick... the prime rib for $24 on Sunday can feed a family of five... It's very near my house... wave as you go by... ;)

btw... Salt Lick does NOT take credit cards nor do they serve alcohol. Bring cash and bring beer if you drink...

Also, if you want top-notch Mexican food, I suggest La Fonda San Miguel... a bit upscale but very well worth it...

There is SO much to do in Austin... you can't go wrong...
