Hear me out... Have Roy chuck Moss at LOS

Since we are probably going to play a safety over the top on Randy...how about giving some thought to lining Roy up accross from him. Why? Because Roy is physical enough to give him a REAL chuck within 5 yards. And quircky game plans like this are a TRADEMARK of Bill Bellicheck. Whether it is WRs playing CB or LBers playing FB/TE...We need to try something to get in their heads. But I seriously think we are going to have a long day if we do not play physical with Randy off the snap and Roy can at least do that.

Roy cant stay with Shockey and you want him to cover Moss?

I believe he just wants Roy to hit Moss before the 5 yd mark......rough him up a little for the CB

I think it's a fantastic idea, but I'd do it with a LB. Roll the OLB out on Randy and hit him, and drop or rush. Might affect our run defense negatively, but I think it's worth it. Seattle did such a thing to Steve Smith, and it was very effective.

But, Carolina doesn't have the other options the Patriots have.

The biggest thing that needs to be done in this game is out-physical-ing NE. If we need to beat the hell out of their receivers off the line, let's get to it.

If you want to press him at the line you need someone of his size to do it. Long arms that could get their hands on him right off the bat. I think he could get right by a LB if they tried to do that. If you want to do that, I think you do it with Watkins.

Yup, I completely agree. We need to be very phsical with them, punish them for every yard. If we can't beat the hell out of them, perhaps we can slow them down a bit or think twice about certain plays, we could do it, get it done Cowboys.

This is what we should do the first play of the game vs. Moss.

1. Ware lines up in front of Moss and bumps him immediately off the LOS. Ware then moves back towards the line and to defend the run, rush the QB.

2. Roy stays on Moss for the next 10-15 yards, slapping him around while the refs aren't looking.

3. Newman then covers Moss after 15 yards.

4. If Moss ever manages to catch a ball, all above players, including Hamlin and K. Davis, if necessary, converge on Moss' head.

5. Rinse and repeat.

I am glad you see my vision...again, the Patriots are notorious for using unconventional methods....I am not trying to be funny at all...Roy could chuck him within 5 yards...then play underneath stuff like backs out of the backfield or TEs on short stuff...of course you would not do this every play...but this is our house...we need to dictate...not have someone dictate to us..and quite frankly I am sick of Moss dancing at our expense...win or lose I want him to feel pain

Dr. Z had the same idea, I'm told.

I suggested this a few weeks ago....love the idea....but I would use Hamlin instead of Roy. I don't think there should be one snap where Moss isn't being mauled at the line of scrimmage.

thanks for chiming in...I trust my football acumen....I know I am not always right...but it is nice to hear some of you guys do not think this is a completley insane idea...I think if you make him fight to get into his routes...he is not going to to have time to go long...and once he cuts his routes short...he would then have to go to the middle of the field and absorb punishement once he catches the ball

Our entire gameplan cannot be to rough up Moss at the LOS because New England will just put him in motion so he has a better chance to get off free.

If our offense can keep us in the game, there's no sense trying something new on defense until after halftime adjustments. What they have been doing is working, so no need to put the defensive players in alien positions.

Remember the last time we did this? Ware was supposed to jam Moss at the line. He didn't get much of a jam and Moss beat us deep. That was the play where Newman ran him down.

I was thinking the same thing. It also happened to us during the 1995 season vs. San Fran when we were favored big time and got spanked at home. Darin Smith was suppose to jam Jerry Rice at the line and didn't. The result was Jerry Rice running down the middle of the field catching a deep pass for a touchdown.

The problem is... and there are many problems here... If a wide receiver lines up too wide it takes your linebacker or safety completely out of the play. Do you want Ware or Spencer or Roy to be following wide receivers out to the very edge of the playing field?

Secondly I've come to realize that linebackers and safeties are not very good at jamming receivers because they don't do it often. If a linebacker is suppose to jam then they have to get that jam in--- if not the receiver gets to the second level uncontested and the defender at that level "gets" the receiver well before they're suppose too... this can screw up the entire pass defense.

Thirdly you can't jam receivers every play. If you play the exact same style play after play sooner or later you'll get burned big time. This is an enhanced form of "rock, paper, scissors". Ask yourself why no one else constantly jams Moss if he supposedly he's susceptible to this? It's because it doesn't work long term during a real game.

That's also all Moss did against us all day, and it occurred with Keith Davis playing the deep zone.

I can live with one big play from Moss that doesn't result in a TD, can't you?

Wes Welker should be the one that we worry about the most. Especially on 3rd down.
