Heath Miller Could Be A Big Threat In The Middle Of The Field..

The Cowboys have been struggling to cover TE's in the middle of the field as of late.

Losing Roy Williams seems to be a bigger deal than most fans think. Alot of fans wanted Roy Williams gone and now that he is on IR are wishing that he was on the field as the Cowboys are giving up big plays to TE's and WR's(slot).

JMO, it seem to me when there was a play to be had against our defense, offenses went to the middle of our defense.

The middle of the field looks to be the soft spot for the Cowboys defnse.

This is why I am a little concerned with Heath Miller and Hines Ward working the middle of the field.

I am hoping having Adam Jones back at the Nickle will help against the Steelers spread offense but the Cowboys need to find a way to match-up against Miller.

Maybe getting Adam Jones back means that we move Henry to cover the TE to match the size/height ratio and move AJ to CB on certain situations.

Anybody else at least a little concerned of the middle of the field coverage?

thats their biggest advantage. Putting keith davis into situations where he has to run and cover heath miller.

Let's not tell Pittsburgh but it seems pretty clear we plan to defend Heath Miller with Anthony Henry a good deal.

The Pitt offense scares me very little.

Our special teams versus their special teams is what makes me cringe.

Our coverage teams were pretty darn good on Thanksgiving, hopefully we keep that up.

He could definitely hurt us, but his talents have been under used by having to stay in and protect an awful O-line. Id expect more of the same against the team with the 2nd most sacks in the league.

Not overly concerned with Their offense especially if we pressure Ben into mistakes. Miller is the only one I worry about.

I hear ya there and the Steelers have actually been pretty anemic on special teams this year but historically they have gotten it done in that area and I worry it will be a crucial part of Sunday's game.

I guess I just trust the offense with Romo et al, the defense with Ware et al but not yet the special teams lead by recent free agent signees:)

if the field and the wind are bad enough, the punting game could win or lose it for one of us sunday.

It would suck if like the tampa game we are backed up the whole first half and just fighting to get out of the shadow of our endzone.

Good post. Love football talk. We are doing a much better job of changing up the defensive schemes esp with who is dropping. Most zones are going to have problems with pattern reading, the middle of the field and covering deep. Underneath gets to be a problem for us because for some reason we aren't reading it right. We've been reading better and playing more man underneath.

The weakest part of zone coverage is always getting enough pressure. No team can zone successfully without pressure.

BTW, AJ will help Wade be more creative with the special packages. It's too bad Jenkins isn't around as having as they could all be on the field at the same time.

if we can shut down ward and holmes, and their running game at the expense of heath miller having a big day. i will take it.

Thanks! I like that Wade is throwing in the 46D and being more aggressive.

Yeah, it is great. But Wade now has some trust in Scandrick and Jenkins. Esp Scandrick. Add AJ and you can then do some schemes he couldn't otherwise use. He's taken the restrictor plate off his new toy.

Sadly, Bruce Arians loves his TE's and yet never actually throws to them. Heath Miller is one of the best receiving options on this team - he should be a focal point of the offense. Never seems to work out that way though.

Honestly even though I'm not a real fan of him I think with Jones back, where he can play outside, this will allow them to line Henry up on the TE and slow down some of that TE play.

Bradie James covering Heath 20 yards down field scares me far more than any of our safeties.

That's exactly the type of scheme I'm talking about.

I've given this game some thought and I'm getting more comfortable.

We have the same pass rush that they do. I have to give us the big edge here as Romo is much more likely to deal with that kind of rush. He's more mobile and works the pocket better. Our OL is more stout than there's is. That should give us a big advantage. My only worry is Romo protecting the ball. He needs to improvise and move around but he cannot turn it over.
