Anybody watch the new show Helix on syfy? It was OK, not great or terrible, just OK.

However there was one portion of the show that could have used the standard creepy music to heighten a creepy part of the show but instead used a light 70s tune that made it even creepier even though the song is almost elevatorish music. It was Dianne Warwick do you know the way to San Jose. If you know the song it is not creepy at all but it really made a creepy sequence even more creepier.

Initially they should the pilot and the next episode back to back. Somewhere during that they showed some previews of the rest of the season and I thought it was her they were showing but was not sure. Did not think about it again until you mentioned it so I looked on google and it appears she is going to be on the show.

I think they also said you could watch this weeks episode (third episode) on Demand (if you have on demand services with your cable company) but I figured I would just wait till it is on.

Since it was on 2 days straight or whatever I did watch them late at night. Like you said ok, but I don't think I will watch anymore. The veterinarian actress was plain bad at acting and the young genius scientist woman is not very good at acting. The lead guy who I know has been in a ton of shows and probably movies is an excellent actor though. Although I am not completely in love with it I am going to continue watching Orphan Black on BBCA it is definitely better than this.

Finally watched the premiere night double episode. I liked the show, thought the story was interesting. But I am finding it hard to see this as an ongoing series. Seems like a good 3-5 part miniseries type show. Hopefully they will prove me wrong.

It's not a very good show. And some of the acting is downright bad. The Asian dude who is in charge of the place is so frustrating. He just stands there silently with that same evil look on his face. I don't know if that's how his character is supposed to be or if he's just such a bad actor that it's hard to figure out what he's trying to do. Also, his adopted cop body guard guy is a horrible actor too. Pretty much everybody is. It's like they find all these people standing outside of a Wal Mart looking for work.

I agree except the lead guy-old dude is very good at acting.

Meh, another zombie infection thing. Wow, how original. Like that's never been done before in TV, movies, books, video games, etc., like ever. Hey, let's take a theme like zombies/vampires/cops/drug pushers and beat it to death and beat it after it's dead and beat it to death again if it gets resurrected. Some idea comes along and TV land milks it for 90 years. Lame.

Well yeah.

The whole zombie thing has been going strong for about 10 years now and has to peter-out at some point. Nearly as bad are the flood of vampire/werewolf and vampire vs werewolf movies. The horror genre needs a re-boot. Maybe a new slasher... it seems the only slasher movies that have been released the last few years were not very well done remakes.

I prefer my horror with some originality - a slow buildup and actual suspense and unpredictability. You see a zombie or a guy with a huge knife, you know what he/she's going to do. Then the rest of the movie is all just watching everyone react to the zombie/knife guy which will be the same as how everyone has reacted to the zombie/knife guy in every other movie ever made with a zombie/knife guy in it. You see a monster like the one in Cloverfield, you have no idea the damage it'll cause (aah it's dropping mini-baby monsters!), or watch a movie like "Blair Witch" or "Cabin in the Woods" where what'll happen in the end isn't obvious.

You hit on some great ones in "Cloverfield", "Cabin In the Woods" and "Blair Witch".

I agree on the suspense and unpredictability angle.

We've gotten desensitized to the whole gore angle because most movies... well that's all they got.

Unless they have a unique angle to them– they certainly aren't memorable. But there have been some low-budget horror flicks that I have enjoyed...

"Abominable"
"Midnight Meat Train"
"The Dead"
"Joy Ride"
"Jeepers Creepers"

There is some bad acting in this, for sure, but I'm enjoying the mindlessness of the show so far :)

Watched all 3 episodes last night. Not bad but not great. Good enough to watch the rest of the first season to see how it develops.

I was with you until you said Cloverfield was original. The only genre more beaten to death than zombie/knife guy is the found footage genre. I'll give Blair Witch credit because that was the original, but there are so many of those movies coming out nowadays. Maybe you just haven't grown tired of it yet, or maybe it's just your thing, but it contradicts your whole originality point.

Blair Witch made the found footage films popular but I would not say it was the original.

There was some old goofy big foot movie from years ago that pretty much was a lost footage movie and also Cannibal Holocaust was another and I think that one was late 70's or very early 80's.

Good point. Yea I figured Blair Witch wasn't the original. But it was definitely the first majorly successful film in the found footage genre. But there are so many found footage horrors out nowadays and the majority of them are epically bad. I still think that Apollo 11 movie was the worst movie of all time. There's a new one constantly being advertised on TV. I think it's called Devils Due. Newly married couple blacks out for a few hours on their honeymoon. The wife is mysteriously pregnant. The baby is supposedly the antichrist. Now there are even some hybrid films where they throw in some HD professional cameras. Anyway, the movies are just bad and they're everywhere. Cloverfield was no different. I thought Cloverfield was pretty awful. It was basically Godzilla meets Blair Witch.
